Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit

“Nineveh is like a pool whose water is draining away. ‘Stop! Stop!’ they cry, but no one turns back. Plunder the silver! Plunder the gold! The supply is endless, the wealth from all its treasures! She is pillaged, plundered, stripped! Hearts melt, knees give way, bodies tremble, every face grows pale.”
(Nahum 2:8-10)

You punish the wealthy and powerful, Jesus –

who after repeated warnings to repent
despise You and laugh in Your face.

May I never stray.

But if I do

help me repent!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.”
(Proverbs 3:11-12)

I don’t like to be disciplined, Jesus.

It’s upsetting to realize You’re disappointed in me!

As a result, my immaturity is showing, isn’t it?

I should welcome Your correction.
It’s a chance to learn, grow, improve.

It’s evidence that You love me –
that in me You find delight!

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…called, ‘uncircumcised’ by those who call themselves ‘the circumcision’…”
(Ephesians 2:11)

There’s something about being one of the “haves,” Jesus

that Satan can twist to make us want to exclude

the “have nots.”

But that’s not who You Are!

You’ve called us who have so much
to be generous with those who have so little.

You despise the exclusive clique mentality!

You urge us to include everyone

who trusts and obeys You.

Use me
to lift others up!

Pray this Lazaroo in sobriety of mind:

“So I have caused you to be despised and humiliated before all the people…”
(Malachi 2:9)

To be despised – if it’s only by one or two people –

is painful, Jesus.

To be humiliated with somebody watching

is awful.

But to be despised and humiliated before everybody?

Family, friends, total strangers?
Pretty close to unbearable.

What would cause You to do something like that to a person?

Maybe because they’ve tried to make everyone they know
despise and humiliate You.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble trust:

“They are full of…malice.”
(Romans 1:29)

Protect me from enemies like this, Jesus!

Some people unintentionally cause harm.
Not these people.

They do it on purpose.
They plan it.

Those who are full of malice seethe with hatred, evil intent
fully intending to do harm to those they despise.

They delight in the suffering of others
proud of the fact that they’re the ones who caused it.

If one of them aims his arrows at me

break his bow.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“So I have caused you to be despised…”
(Malachi 2:9)

That’s a fearful thing, Jesus.

It’s one thing for people not to like me.
In that case, they might choose to leave me alone

…which is not always a bad thing. 😉

But when people actually despise me?
They may be tempted to attack me

with things they say about me
things they may do to harm me.

May I never bring down that kind of curse on myself!

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…a poor man in shabby clothes…comes in.”
(James 2:2)

It’s a test, isn’t it, Jesus?

What’s my first thought?
What’s the expression on my face?
What do I say?
What do I do?

I don’t have to ask.

You want me to treat him with love, respect, dignity.

Don’t ever, ever, ever allow me to look down on anyone!

You made each and every soul I will ever see.
Help me think, feel, speak and act like it.
