Pray this Lazaroo with unbridled gratitude:

“Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach and to have authority to drive out demons.”
(Mark 3:13-15)

You called those you wanted, Jesus.

By Your grace, You’ve called me.
That means You want me!

Oh, my God.

Thank You!

I don’t know why You want me

but I’m determined not to let You down.

Pray this Lazaroo with ironclad conviction:

“Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.”
(3 John 1:11)

I’m sure that’s true, Jesus.

But I haven’t seen You
and I’m determined not to do evil!

When Your disciple Thomas believed after He saw Your resurrected body

You told Him those would be blessed
who believe in You even though they haven’t seen You.

I haven’t seen You in person

but with countless others

I see You by faith!

That will be enough

until my faith becomes sight.

Pray this Lazaroo with re-burning zeal:

“Anyone who…does not continue in the teaching of Christ…
(2 John 1:9)

I gave my life to You, Jesus

because You gave Your life for me.

I was determined to obey You from that moment forward.

But I haven’t.
I’ve sinned.
A lot.

I’ve confessed my sins.

I’ve forsaken them.

Only to pick them back up again.

I have no excuse – but You see it, LORD:

within the heart of my being
is a desire to continue in Your teaching.

Forgive me!
F
ill me!
Save me!

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted determination:

“Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.”
(Proverbs 4:1-2)

That’s the prayer of every Godly parent, Jesus!

But do the children listen?
Do they take it to heart?

Do they remember it?
Do they put it into practice?

No parent can make a child respond to their hard-earned wisdom, no matter how hard they try.

But as Your child

that’s exactly what I’m determined to do.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire…”
(Habakkuk 3:13)

What a humbling thing to hear, Jesus!

That I can work my fingers to the bone every day of my life
only to have You snap Your fingers

and burn it all up?

That’s what becomes of everything I do for the wrong motives.

But O God!

Everything I do to please You

becomes eternal treasure

that will never fade, spoil, nor pass away!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“Has not the LORD Almighty determined…”
(Habakkuk 2:13)

I can stop the sentence right there, Jesus.

You’ve determined it all.

Everything that has happened, is happening, will happen –

has been decided by You.

Obviously, I don’t know most of what You’ve got cooking

except for those things You’ve spelled out in Your Word.

So for me

following You every step of the way

is the adventure of my lifetime!

Show me what You want me know!

No more…
and no less.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“And now, as surely as the LORD lives –”
(I Kings 2:24)

Those are strong words, Jesus.

Solomon was determined to put his brother Adonijah to death
that very day –

which he did.

But unless You’re the one who puts those words in my mouth

I don’t plan to ever speak them.

You live!

There is nothing more certain or more sacred
than that overriding, glorious, awe-inspiring truth.

My intentions – no matter how fervent –

will always pale in comparison.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“Their…entrails [will be poured out] like filth.”
(Zephaniah 1:17)

Well, so much for those who think You’re into sugarcoating things, Jesus!

That’s about as graphic as it gets.

The image is awful to visualize
let alone see
let alone experience.

But You’re making a point.

This is how You’ll treat some
who turn back from following You

who refuse to seek You
to ask for Your help.

Not me, Father!

I’m determined to follow You to my death.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning desire:

“Remember the height from which you have fallen!”
(Revelation 2:5)

That’s a hard command to obey, Jesus.

Absolutely brutal.

If fills me with guilt –

because I know I didn’t have to fall.

If only I had stayed consistent!

plugging away
determined
one step at a time

I’d be looking down on that height

instead of up at it.

Nothing I can about it now.
What’s done is done.

But that glance at where I once was
inspires me to go after it again.
