Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your being:

“…to escape the clutches of ruin!”
(Habakkuk 2:9)

That’s certainly what I desire, Jesus!

Disappointments, losses, hard times and setbacks are one thing.
Ruin…hangs around a little longer.

However: Anyone who foolishly attempts to escape the clutches of ruin in their own strength

is cursed, marked, doomed to failure –

not only on this earth
but eternally.

There is only one way to escape the clutches of utter, total, permanent ruin:

Trust in You.
Trust in You.
Trust in You.

Pray this Lazaroo in stubborn faith:

“Teach the older men to be…sound…in endurance.”
(Titus 2:2)

By the time these men reach their advanced years, Jesus

You expect them to exhibit this amazing trait of endurance.

Of course, in many cases, that has to be taught

because none of likes what it means:

hardship, disappointment
waiting, waiting, waiting.

The only way to teach it or learn it

is to believe or discover
that when You promise it

in Your perfect way and time
You come through.

Let your thoughts run deep, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“When anyone came to a heap of twenty measures, there were only ten.”
(Haggai 2:16)

That’s the definition of disappointment, Jesus:

Expect a lot
get a little

think I’m about to receive something nice
discover it’s not nearly as good as I thought

eagerly anticipate
only to have my hopes dashed.

In a very real sense

that’s life on earth
jinxed by sin.

But this one exception I’ve discovered:

When I reach for You
You surpass all my expectations.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…the whole house of Israel is hardened…”
(Ezekiel 3:7)

How does a person get that way, Jesus?

Is it their response to disappointment?
Is it the byproduct of repeated sin?

I’m guessing this hardening is accompanied by cynicism.

That’s a form of unbelief, isn’t it?
maybe with some stubbornness mixed in.

Regardless, a hardened heart can’t be a good thing.

I don’t ever want to get that way, Father!

Keep me soft, tender, pliable, responsive
in Your loving hands.

Let the Light dawn, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…whoever hates his brother…walks around in the darkness…”
(1 John 2:11)

It’s bad enough to hate my brother or sister in You, Jesus

and be stuck in the darkness.

But You’re telling me it doesn’t stop there, Holy Spirit.

You’re explaining that to hate one of Your children –

no matter how weak or obnoxious

is to try to navigate the darkness

without a light.

There’s a whole lot of stumbling, falling, disappointment and pain.

That certainly explains a lot.

Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.”
(2 Timothy 2:6)

No argument there, Jesus!

But there’s a world of difference between what should happen
and what does happen.

Most of my upsets and disappoints in life

stem from things that seem to me should happen
but don’t

from things I thought needed to take place
but never did.

That is, until I remember that You

do absolutely – 100% –
of all things well.
