Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice…I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.”
(1 Kings 3:10-12)

You had already given Solomon enough wisdom to ask for the right thing, Jesus.

He had just enough
to know he needed more.

That’s about how much wisdom I have.

I know for a fact:
I need more!

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, ‘Ask for whatever you want me to give you.’ Solomon answered…‘I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties…So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong.’”
(1 Kings 3:5,7,9)

Good answer, Solomon.

That truly pleased You, Jesus.

How many people would have asked for wealth, long life – even revenge?

Give me, LORD…

only what’s best.

Pray this Lazaroo with a heart that hungers for God:

“…I am less than the least of all the Lord’s people…”
(Ephesians 3:8)

Paul knew the murderous evil he had done, Jesus.

He knew You were aware of it, too

along with countless others.

His reputation among some of Your followers was great

but for good reason
others of Your people hated and feared him.

Sometimes a person’s past behavior gives them away

but with others it’s all in the past.

O Holy Spirit!
How I need Your discernment!

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“Abner called out to Joab, ‘Must the sword devour forever? Don’t you realize that this will end in bitterness? How long before you order your men to stop pursuing their fellow Israelites?’”
(2 Samuel 2:26)

This was the wise plea, Jesus

of a general whose army was being soundly beaten.

There’s a time to keep fighting

and a time to call a halt to the hostilities
when nothing worthwhile is being accomplished.

O Holy Spirit!

Give me Your discernment
to know which is which.

Pray this Lazaroo in growing understanding:

“The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit.”
(1 Corinthians 2:14)

That explains some of my conversations with non-Christians, Jesus!

Before they can understand the treasures of Your Word
they first have to accept You, the Living Word!

What those You’re calling to Yourself can understand

is the good news of Your death, burial and resurrection out of love for them.

Pray this Lazaroo with spiritual eyes wide open:

“This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.”
(1 Corinthians 2:13)

There’s a constant battle, isn’t there, Jesus? –

between human wisdom
and the wisdom that comes only from You.

Human wisdom – along with its deceptions and limitations –

is all around me.

But Your wisdom is in Your Word…

through Your Scripturally faithful teachers…

and in me!

HALLELUJAH!

God grant me supernatural discernment!

Pray this Lazaroo in desperate need:

“…rid yourselves of…all deceit…”
(1 Peter 2:1)

I hate being deceived, Jesus!

I long to take people at their word.

It’s so much work to study their body language
and facial giveaways.

I fervently wish I lived in a “what-you-see-is-what-you-get” world.

But I don’t.

So that means I have to be a good evaluator, doesn’t it?

Except…some people are really good deceivers.

Looks like I need to tap into one of Your priceless treasures –

the supernatural gift of discernment.

Beg God for understanding, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…He gives…knowledge to the discerning.”
(Daniel 2:20-21)

At first glance this hardly seems fair, Jesus.

Discerning people already possess significant knowledge.
Why load them up with more?

Is it because the more You give a discerning person

the more they do with it?

On the other hand…

even when You inundate a foolish person with countless blessings
all they do is ignore, disrespect or squander them.

Which am I?

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘Very well,’ Bathsheba replied, ‘I will speak to the king for you.’”
(1 Kings 2:18)

Bathsheba was naïve, trusting, politically inexperienced, Jesus

She took the conniving Adonijah at his word

not knowing that if her son Solomon had granted his brother’s request

she and her son would soon be dead.

I want to take people at face value, Father…but I’ve learned the hard way

that isn’t always possible

O Holy Spirit:

Grant me Your priceless gift of discernment!
