Watch it happen! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘I am against you,’ declares the Lord Almighty. ‘I will burn up your chariots in smoke, and the sword will devour your young lions. I will leave you no prey on the earth.’”
(Nahum 2:13)

What happens to a carnivore when there’s no longer any prey, Jesus?

If they have nothing to kill

they can’t eat.

If they have nothing to eat

they’ll die.

You’re slow to anger, abounding in love.

But when Your patience is met by unrelenting, vicious behavior

You pronounce sentence.

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need?…he entered the house of God and ate the consecrated bread, which is lawful only for priests to eat…The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath…So the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
(Mark 2:25-28)

You’re the One who makes the rules, Jesus.

I’m not about to question You when You change them.

My job is real simple:

Obey.

Pray this Lazaroo in growing understanding:

“And the Lord God said, ‘The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.’ So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden…”
(Genesis 3:22-23)

You want us to live forever, Jesus

but not on this earth.

The longer we live on this planet

the way it is

the more we understand why!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth.”
(Jonah 3:7-8)

First of all, that’s downright impressive, Jesus.

I’ve never heard of covering animals with sackcloth.
None of the people’s sins was the animals’ fault!

Clearly, this king was over-the-top humbling himself before You.

No wonder You relented!

That’s an example I need to keep in mind.

Take it to heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink.”
(Jonah 3:7)

Why would the king of Ninevah issue such a harsh decree, Jesus?

It was because of Jonah’s preaching, wasn’t it?

After You forced him to show up in that wicked city
You declared You were about to destroy them.

The king took You at Your Word and went all out to change your mind.

How seriously do I take Your warnings?

Pray this Lazaroo with a higher perspective:

“I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.”
(Ecclesiastes 3:12-13)

Those are a gift from You, Jesus!

But not everyone gets to enjoy them.

Some of the best people You’ve created

experience a brutally hard life on this earth.

But because of their steadfast faithfulness to You

their forever is going to be oh, so sweet!

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Cursed is the ground because of you…It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.”
(Genesis 3:18-19)

Okay. Got it.

But thanks to my ever-deeper 1on1 relationship with You, Jesus

to dust my Spirit will never return!

Pray this Lazaroo with corrected vision:

“A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment?”
(Ecclesiastes 2:24-25)

This is how far Solomon’s wisdom can take him, Jesus

limited to what he observes under the sun.

True, everything comes from Your hand!

But there is so much more that is better

than eating, drinking
and liking my work.

Consider carefully, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Do not love…anything in the world.”
(1 John 2:15)

That’s…a strong command, Jesus.

But obviously, it’s one I need
or You wouldn’t have given it.

Sometimes I become so enamored with one of Your gifts

that I become attached to it
think I’ve gotta have it
gotta keep it.

Wrong.

I’m going to have to say goodbye

to everything I wear, drive, live in,
use, eat, enjoy, hear or see.

This world is not my home.

I’m just passing through.
