Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother spoke up and said, ‘No! He is to be called John.’”
(Luke 1:59-60)

Her husband’s lack of belief had already cost them both, Jesus.

Elizabeth wasn’t about to make the same mistake.

You had told them their son’s name was to be John.

So John is what she named him.

May I obey You

with that same conviction!

Pray this Lazaroo with wholehearted adoration:

“Her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had shown her great mercy, and they shared her joy.”
(Luke 1:58)

Elizabeth was old when she gave birth, Jesus.

Other Jewish women most likely looked down on her
supposing God had kept her from having children
because she was guilty of some secret sin.

Zechariah loved her too much to divorce her
though that was his legal right, since she had not conceived.

Oh, how wonderful –

when You come to our rescue!

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“When it was time for Elizabeth to have her baby, she gave birth to a son.”
(Luke 1:57)

The miracle baby, Jesus!

John the Baptist – born to an elderly couple who couldn’t have children.

“When it was time,” indeed.

You made them wait that long to have this special child
because he would be the one to introduce You to the world:

as the Lamb of God.

Once he accomplished his purpose, he died.
His time came and went.

As will mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.”
(Luke 1:56)

What an awesome time those three months had to be, Jesus!

Your mother Mary, probably 12 or 13 years old
Elizabeth, well over 60

both filled with inexpressible wonder
pregnant because of a miracle
worked by Your heavenly Father.

Each of them faced unique challenges.
They needed each other, didn’t they?

O God!

Please put me with the right people

so we can encourage one another.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep desire:

“As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears…
(Luke 1:44)

…something truly amazing happened.

I don’t know that any of my greetings
has ever had that effect, Jesus.

But it would be awesome!

I’m not really talking about what happened to Elizabeth
when Mary spoke, the baby leaped in her womb
and she was filled with the Holy Spirit.

What I mean is

I’d love to so faithfully convey Your message
that somebody’s life forever changes.

Pray this Lazaroo in bottomless trust:

“But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?”
(Luke 1:43)

What a stunning statement, Jesus!

Elizabeth, an older woman, sees Mary coming to her –
a pregnant out-of-wedlock teenager.

What does she call Mary?

“The mother of my Lord!”

In that instant, You revealed to Elizabeth that You were the baby in Mary’s womb!

May I respond with joy and reverence when You send to me

the members of Your forever family.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“But why am I so favored…?”
(Luke 1:43)

There’s a simple, life-changing answer to Elizabeth’s question, Jesus:

“Because that’s who You are!”

It’s not only Elizabeth who’s favored.

I’m favored, too!
as is everyone who calls on Your Name.

If I have eyes to see it, Your favor is everywhere I look:

in the obvious blessings that just “happen” to come my way
in the blessings You secret within trials, heartaches and pain.

O God!

Why am I so favored?

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“In a loud voice she exclaimed: ‘Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!’”
(Luke 1:42)

Elizabeth wasn’t exactly ashamed of her unwed pregnant relative, was she, Jesus?

Almost everyone else assumed the worst of your mother.

But not Elizabeth.

She had experienced the power of God.

Filled with the Holy Spirit, she prophesied blessing over You and Your mom.

May I always look first to You, LORD!
rather than judging by mere appearances.

Pray this Lazaroo in gratitude:

“…she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.”
(Luke 1:39)

Mary couldn’t wait to go to Elizabeth, Jesus.

Here she was, an unmarried virgin, pregnant with You.
Nobody – before or since – has been in Your mother’s shoes.

But Elizabeth was close.

Although past the age of childbearing
she was also pregnant with a miracle child.

Everyone’s relationship with You is unique, Jesus.

But thanks for putting people in my life
with whom I can – at least a little – relate. 😉
