Pray this Lazaroo with excuseless humility:

“You have wearied the Lord with your words.”
(Malachi 2:17)

I don’t want to do that to You, Jesus!

In fact, I didn’t think I could.
I didn’t think You ever grew tired or weary.

But You don’t become weary from the mighty miracles You perform.

What wearies You is when I don’t do
what I say I’ll do.

You’re sick to death of empty words.

O God! Forgive me!

May I always – in Your strength –
keep my word to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“Elisha said, “Go around and ask all your neighbors for empty jars. Don’t ask for just a few. Then go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled, put it to one side.”
(2 Kings 4:3-4)

She didn’t have enough oil to fill even one jar, Jesus.

But before You worked the miracle
You required her – in an act of faith –
to collect a houseful of empty jars.

All my empty jars are sitting here, Jesus!

Ready.

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…remember that at that time you were…without hope and without God in the world.”
(Ephesians 2:12)

It’s vital to remember that, Jesus!

Sometimes I get so wrapped up in my problems
that I’m tempted to envy the lifestyles of unbelievers.

That’s when I most need to recall what it was like when I was in the same boat they’re in.

It was downright ugly!

I never want to return to the empty, hopeless existence

that is life without You.

Pray this Lazaroo in growing wisdom:

“Stop chasing me! Why should I strike you down?”
(2 Samuel 2:22)

Abner had the ability to kill Asahel, Jesus

but he didn’t want to.

He knew if Asahel continued to press his attack, he’d have to defend himself

and it would end badly.

But of course, Asahel thought he could kill Abner, so he refused to listen

and it cost him his life.

O God!

Eradicate from my life every shred of empty bravado
and every foolish pursuit!

Pray this Lazaroo filled with gratitude:

“He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty.”
(Luke 1:53)

When we think we’ve got life figured out, Jesus

You flip the script!

There’s something about You that loves doing that, isn’t there?

I love that about You, too.

You have such a heart for those who struggle and are hurting.

You also have a heart for those You’ve richly blessed
who love to share.

But for the stingy?
Not so much.

Pray this Lazaroo with heartfelt gratitude:

“…you were redeemed from the empty way of life…”
(1 Peter 1:18)

I can’t thank You enough for that, Jesus!

Satan sure knows how to throw a party

from a distance.

In the beginning, it feels like his way

is the most exciting
the most glamorous

until I stay for the second act

and discover how desperately empty

it really is

realizing whatever I have to do, I don’t want to stick around

for the third

and final

act.

Pray this Lazaroo in saddened pity:

“…to those who…do not believe …”
(Titus 1:15)

Just how badly does refusing to believe in You

limit a person’s vision, Jesus?

I guess the most obvious is…

it shrinks all their hopes and dreams
into the space of a single human lifespan.

A person who doesn’t acknowledge that You see all and will judge all

is tempted to do whatever they can get away with

believes none of the wrongs done to them
will ever be made right.
