Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…they…flatter others…”
(Jude 1:16)

Complimenting people is a good thing, Jesus.

We all need encouragement!

When someone does something good…when they give it all they’ve got

use me to give them an emotional boost, to lift their spirits!

But flattery isn’t that.

Flattery is insincere.

Flattery is buttering people up so they can be manipulated.

May I never, never, NEVER be guilty of that!

And when someone tries to use flattery on me

may I see straight through their duplicity.

Pray this Lazaroo in honest self-assessment:

“These people are…faultfinders…”
(Jude 1:16)

Okay, Jesus –

When my job is quality control
I have to find and report every fault! 😉

But when it comes to my relationships with others?

What they need most from me is encouragement
not relentless criticism.

How often do Your people fall short because of discouragement –

especially when somebody comes along
and nitpicks them to death?

Why would I ever do that?

Maybe because I’d rather find fault in others
than in myself.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“If you have any encouragement…”
(Philippians 2:1)

I do have encouragement, Jesus!

And I know where it comes from:

You.

Satan is the discourager.

You’re the Encourager.

Every day – in countless ways –

You show Yourself strong for me.

Of course, I have to have eyes to see it.

Some days I don’t.

I’m so focused on the one or two things I don’t like

that I fail to see the innumerable evidences
of Your love, mercy and grace.

Pray this Lazaroo in non-arguing obedience:

“Go now to your countrymen in exile…”
(Ezekiel 3:10)

Tough assignment, Jesus!

These people were pretty cranky over being expelled from their homeland.
They were also rebellious against You.

When You place me among bad attitude people

all I want to do is run.

But they need help, encouragement and Your Word too, don’t they?

So I guess the main thing for me to keep in mind

is to embrace my God-given mission

and not become cranky and rebellious. 😉

Stay focused as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But you have turned from the way…”
(Malachi 2:8)

Your way is the only road worth traveling, Jesus –

where joy arises
where growth occurs
where good takes place
where people are healed
where hope springs eternal
where amazing things happen
where bad people become good
where good people become great
where nobodies become somebody
where broken relationships are restored

Why would I ever turn from Your way?

There is not one good reason
In all this sick old world.

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“The Merarites were appointed to take care of the frames of the tabernacle, its crossbars…”
(Numbers 3:36)

The crossbars don’t get as much attention as other tent pieces, Jesus

but they were crucially important to Your tabernacle in the wilderness

helping to evenly distribute the load
providing essential stability when struck by desert winds.

I need crossbars in my life, Father!

Your Word
time with You in prayer
encouraging Christian friends

and may I be a crossbar for them.
