Pray this Lazaroo with wiser eyes:

“…all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. Fools fold their hands and ruin themselves. Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.”
(Ecclesiastes 4:4-6)

So there’s a balance, isn’t there, Jesus?

Work to accomplish what You’ve called me to do
not to keep up with someone else.

But even so, You want me to work –
and not make others do my job.

Grasp it! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the humble and oppressed. The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.”
(Proverbs 3:34-35)

Much of my society has this reversed, Jesus.

They think proud mockers are strong, successful.
They envy them, aspire to be like them.

But the wise among us know better.

Today, their humility has brought them oppression

but tomorrow, eternal honor awaits!

If and when I’m forced to choose –

to have it today or have it tomorrow –

I choose forever in heaven with You!

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence. The Lord’s curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.”
(Proverbs 3:31-33)

From a distance, Jesus…

it’s easy to believe evil people
are getting away with it.

But You’ve given Your Word:

They’re not!

You alone are my hope for a great life on this earth

…and beyond.

Pray this Lazaroo with hot anticipation:

“Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was, will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?”
(2 Corinthians 3:7-8)

So no more looking back with envy, Jesus!

Yes, You did marvelous things long ago!

Hallelujah!

But by faith I declare to the skies:

Your best is yet to come!

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“…rid yourselves of all…envy…”
(1 Peter 2:1)

It’s the green-eyed monster, isn’t it, Jesus?

Wanting what somebody else has
until its acid eats away the “lining” of my spirit

robbing me of my joy
becoming an obsession
keeping me awake nights
turning me into something ugly and repulsive.

What’s the antidote?

Your contentment!

brought about by trusting in You
to supply everything I need

knowing You love me way too much
to withhold anything good that is truly best.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“They are full of envy…”
(Romans 1:29)

Not a particularly good thing to be full of, Jesus.

It’ll eat me alive.

When I start comparing myself with others

jealous of what You’re doing for them
I lose perspective, can’t think straight.

“Why them and not me?” has a boatload of really good answers –

none of which I can come up with
while I’m caught in envy’s grasp.

Instead of envy, fill me with gratitude

for what You’re doing for me.

Embrace your calling as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Aaron and his descendants were the ones who presented offerings on the altar of burnt offering…”
(1 Chronicles 6:49)

You’ve got an assignment for everyone, Jesus

but You have so much that needs to be done
so many lives to be touched

that we can’t all do the same job.

What a tragedy if I’m so envious of what someone else is doing

that I totally miss the indescribable joy
of doing what You’ve designed me to do.

Pray this Lazaroo in simple trust:

“God…was also at work in my ministry…”
(Galatians 2:8)

It’s so easy to look at what You’re doing through someone else, Jesus…

and not be able to see what You’re doing through me.

Forgive me!

It’s a miracle in and of itself
that You’re willing to work with me at all.

Wouldn’t it be wild to find out that while I’m enviously staring at them

they’re shaking their heads in wonder
at the amazing things You’re accomplishing through me?

Pray this Lazaroo in trusting contentment:

“…they saw that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been to the Jews.”
(Galatians 2:7)

What a fulfilling moment, Jesus…

to finally recognize why You’ve put me on this earth

and at the same time

to be able to celebrate the fact that someone else
has a different mission.

So many mistakenly attempt to clone the mission of someone they view as successful

and risk missing out on the calling You’ve given to them.
