Pray this Lazaroo with determination:

“They were left to test the Israelites to see whether they would obey the Lord’s commands, which he had given their ancestors through Moses. The Israelites lived among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. They took their daughters in marriage and gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.”
(Judges 3:4-6)

I too live among those who follow other gods, Jesus.

But may I – unlike the Israelites – never follow their gods.

Instead, help me lead them to You!

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…you also have those who hold to the teaching of the Nicolaitans. Repent therefore! Otherwise, I will soon come to you and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth.”
(Revelation 2:15-16)

These Nicolaitans were a dangerous bunch, Jesus.

They worshiped You…

right alongside false gods.

So, on the surface, it seemed like they were trying to do right

but by polluting their worship of You with evil

they led many astray.

You alone, LORD!

You alone.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“…the LORD alone will be exalted in that day, and the idols will totally disappear.”
(Isaiah 2:17)

Oh, how I long for that day, Jesus!

when I finally rid myself of the idols
that continue to lurk inside my heart.

I’m repulsed by the graven images I see all around the world.

But the ugliest and most detestable false gods of all

are those things in my life that to this very day
I catch myself putting ahead of You.

Pray this Lazaroo in complete trust:

“…called, ‘uncircumcised’…”
(Ephesians 2:11)

This may be the worst insult of all, Jesus!

It’s another way of saying I don’t belong to You.

If I don’t belong to You
I don’t get to go to heaven.

But circumcision in the flesh never saved anyone.

It was what You commanded Your people to do
to set them apart from the false gods of every other nation.

By faith in You
that’s exactly what You’ve done for me

through the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“They were in great distress.”
(Judges 2:15)

Been there, Jesus.

But not, I hope, for the same reason they were.

You were fighting against them!

And of course, You were winning.
Every time.

Your people turned away from You to false gods and idols

provoking You to anger.

Not me, LORD! Never!

May all my great distress be caused by Satan
because I remain true to You.

I know You’ll fight my battles and utterly defeat him.

Every time.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter conviction:

“…there is one God…”
(1 Timothy 2:5)

A lot of people don’t want to hear that, Jesus.

One reason is their distaste for accountability.
They don’t want to admit there is any God at all.

Another reason is their distaste for homework.

If God exists and there’s only one of Him

that puts a whole lot of pressure on them to be absolutely certain

which of all the gods out there is You
meaning all the others

are false.

Open your eyes, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Love her as the LORD loves the Israelites, though they turn to other gods and love the sacred raisin cakes.”
(Hosea 3:1)

Satan knows these false gods he parades in front of people

are no gods at all, Jesus.

So he always finds a way to sweeten his lies, to make them easier to swallow –

sometimes with sacred raisin cakes
at other times with drugs, drunkenness, adultery.

But there’s a catch.

As with all poisons
there’s a lethal aftertaste.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…your people…practice divination like the Philistines…”
(Isaiah 2:6)

If You had a gizzard, Jesus

that would have fried it.

The heathen peoples surrounding them sought the will of false gods by examining inanimate objects such as rods, arrows, cups, animal livers.

They attempted to interpret dreams
consulted so-called holy people and idols.

That Your very own people would turn to all that instead of You?

Unconscionable.

Almost as bad as the so-called unscriptural “experts” we rely on today.

Pray this Lazaroo with faith in the God who can:

“…your people…are full of superstitions…”
(Isaiah 2:6)

It must be so hard for You to bear, Jesus –

seeing Your people hamstrung by their superstitions.

At first, they seem harmless enough –

knocking on wood
not walking under ladders
avoiding black cats who want to stroll in front of us
wearing the same socks we wore when our team last won –

but at heart, they have a deceiving, ugly, hidden danger:

They’re little false gods I trust
instead of You.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“They provoked the LORD to anger because they forsook him and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.”
(Judges 2:12-13)

No wonder You were angry, Father!

These were gods of their own creation
gods You had warned them against

gods who had never done anything for them
because as the product of their imaginations

they couldn’t.

The things I create contain the same danger, LORD.

May I keep You first, always, Jesus!
employing what I create

to serve You.
