Pray this Lazaroo with sincere humility:

“…Diotrephes, who loves to be first, will not welcome us.”
(3 John 1:9)

Well, no, Jesus.

There was no way on earth
that Diotrephes would welcome John.

If he did, he’d no longer be first!

By comparison to the famous Apostle John
Diotrephes would appear to be a nobody.

He’d rather miss out on John’s incomparable teaching

than give up his position of self-importance.

May I never miss out on your best

because of my pigheaded desire to be a big shot.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But the fields and villages around the city were given to Caleb…”
(1 Chronicles 6:56)

Some of us get the big cities, Jesus

others the fields and smaller towns.

You place each of us where – if we trust You with our whole hearts –

we can thrive.

Interestingly, one may be best for a season

and the other best in the next season of life.

I may have to learn these truths the hard way

but it’s worth the cost.

Pray this Lazaroo with outrageous adoration:

“Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all people. “
(1 Timothy 2:5-6)

Those last two words, Jesus:

all people.”

Not merely the rich, famous or powerful.

all people.”

Not just deacons, elders and pastors.

all people.”

Not only the beautiful, talented and likable.

all people.”

You gave Yourself as a ransom

for poor people, nobodies and powerless
waiters, stockbrokers and nurses
ugly people, clumsy and obnoxious

and for me! – the least deserving of

all people.”

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“When Peter came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he was clearly in the wrong.”
(Galatians 2:11)

Peter wasn’t infallible, Jesus.

Nor was Paul, who opposed him.
Nor is any leader, no matter how wise, respected or famous.

Nor am I.

Sooner or later, we all need to be corrected.

But when it’s my turn to be corrected
may it be by somebody like Paul

who opposed Peter to his face
rather than behind his back.
