Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted determination:

“Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching.”
(Proverbs 4:1-2)

That’s the prayer of every Godly parent, Jesus!

But do the children listen?
Do they take it to heart?

Do they remember it?
Do they put it into practice?

No parent can make a child respond to their hard-earned wisdom, no matter how hard they try.

But as Your child

that’s exactly what I’m determined to do.

Pray this Lazaroo in clear-headed obedience:

“…it was the practice of the priests…”
(1 Samuel 2:13)

Just because it’s a priest who does it

doesn’t make it right, Jesus.

The same goes for pastors, mothers, fathers, popes and presidents.

Honored position doesn’t insure righteous behavior.

In this case, the priests under Eli were engaging in detestable behavior.

Open my eyes, LORD!
Please don’t let me be blinded by position!

Show me how to wisely deal with such leaders

and never follow in their evil footsteps.

Take a clear-eyed look, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…children who do not yet know good from bad…”
(Deuteronomy 1:39)

Those have to be some pretty young kids, Jesus

because most little ones catch on awfully quick.

Oh, they may not understand why something is good or bad

but even as babies they can immediately tell
when their mothers and fathers are pleased or displeased.

You’ve made it clear:

A child’s character is revealed
by what they do.

So is mine.
God help me, so is mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“Unlike their fathers…”
(Judges 2:17)

That can be a bad thing, Jesus

…or something very good.

Of course, no one is exactly like their father

so that’s understood.

But fathers leave examples for us to follow…or reject.

If my father was an evil person
may I not repeat his sins!

But if my father was a good man
help me walk in his footsteps

while never forgetting that the only perfect example that is always safe to follow

is Yours.

Pray this Lazaroo, sobered:

“I write to you, fathers…”
(1 John 2:13)

Thank You, Jesus!

because the fathers of our day
need a good writing-to.

Of course, You’ve already written.

But are fathers reading what You’ve given them?
Are they taking it to heart, obeying it?

Some are.

Some are rejecting the Bible entirely.

Others, deluded, are picking and choosing which parts they like

discarding the rest

as though Your Word was a buffet line
where desserts can be eaten

the meat ignored.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children…comforting…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:11-12)

The best fathers know how to do that, don’t they, LORD?

Some children merely need to be told it’s all right.
Others require specifics – they want to be told why it’s all right! 😉

Really good fathers also know when their child needs comfort

and when they need to be rebuked, questioned, challenged.

Thank You for being an awesome Father to me!

Be filled with gratitude, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:11-12)

But not every father encourages, Jesus.

Some with their words

discourage, belittle, condemn
pull the rug out from under their offspring.

Others by their example

humiliate, anger, disappoint
lead their children astray

Thank You for every father who encourages!

But thank You even more for being the greatest Father of all

who encourages, uplifts and inspires
every single one of us!

Pray this Lazaroo with explosive feeling:

“…we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:11)

That statement probably had more punch then than it does now, Jesus.

These days, we’ve got a whole lot of biological dads running around
who don’t have the first clue what it means to be a father –

or if they know –

can’t quit their drinking, drugs and video games
long enough to be what Paul’s talking about.

O God!

Save our kids!
