Pray this Lazaroo in quiet trust:

“The couriers went out, spurred on by the king’s command, and the edict was issued in the citadel of Susa. The king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Susa was bewildered.”
(Esther 3:15)

The deadly plot Haman hatched against Your people

quickly spread throughout the kingdom, Jesus

leaving fear in its wake.

No matter!

What you had planned for Haman and all like him

was about to backfire

and bring about their total destruction.

Pull on your work gloves, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling…”
(Philippians 2:12)

I can’t work UP my salvation, Jesus.

I’m saved by my faith in You, not by my works.

But I do have to work OUT my salvation once I’ve received it!

Not casually, but with fear and trembling –

‘cause the stakes are really, really, really high!

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“…we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.”
(Galatians 2:16)

I keep forgetting this, Jesus!

Should I obey You?
Absolutely!

But You don’t want me living in fear when I sin

as though my place in heaven with You is in jeopardy.

Do I believe in You with all my heart?

Yes!!!

Then…

I’m in.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“…what I dreaded has happened to me.”
(Job 3:25)

They hang over all of us, Jesus –

these fears of what might happen.

You spare us from so many of them!

Hallelujah! Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

But not from all.

Sometimes, what we most wanted to escape
grabs us around the neck in its cruel clutches.

The thing is…

You could have kept that from happening.

But You didn’t.

Because in deep, faithful love

You know best.

Pray this Lazaroo in wisdom, self-control and total trust:

“…forfeiting your life.”
(Habakkuk 2:10)

That seems incomprehensible, Jesus!

Why would anyone forfeit his life?
Why would she throw away something so precious?

But people do it all the time. Why?

Because Your gracious gift of life can become soiled, feel ruined

by sin…pain…sickness…fear…hatred…loss.

And in the darkness that our emotions and Satan himself brings

people can lose hope
abandon perspective
think irrationally

act hastily…foolishly.

But You’re the Giver of life!

My life is not my own to take.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“What I feared has come upon me…”
(Job 3:25)

Why do You allow this to happen, Jesus?

Is it because You want to show me

that because I have You
I have nothing and no one to fear?

You don’t want me to live in fear, do You?

I don’t want me to live in fear, either!

So since we’re agreed

please deliver me from all fear

except the fear of displeasing You.

Pray this Lazaroo from your heart:

“If you have…any tenderness…”
(Philippians 2:1)

Oh, how I need tenderness, Jesus!

I don’t ask people for it very often.
I’m not sure why.

Maybe because I don’t want to appear weak and needy

but I am.

That’s the truth. I am.

Which is why I’m coming to You.

I can’t put up a front with You.
You know what’s inside me.

You know my fears, frustrations, failures

love me in spite of them

and are so, so tender.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“…they had no regard for the LORD.”
(1 Samuel 2:12)

I see those words and I know they’re true –

because everything in Your Word is true.

But I can’t relate, Jesus.

How can anyone disregard You?

Oh, I know – Satan has a way of blinding people.

But this blind?
This mule headed stupid?

My guess is they’re determined to block You out

because they don’t want to be accountable to You.

But that’s not going to work, is it?

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They look like flaming torches…”
(Nahum 2:4)

That’s not what they were, Jesus

but it’s sure what those invading chariots looked like.

When fear grips my heart…when I’m under attack…

my mind can play tricks on me
my emotions can skew what I perceive.

Deliver me from that weakness, LORD!

May my well-founded faith in You be so strong
that when Satan launches his offensive

I am calmer, braver and sharper than usual –

my every move
guided by You.

Pray this Lazaroo from a heart filled with hope:

“…he was afraid…”
(Galatians 2:12)

I’d boast that I’m never afraid, Jesus

but I’m afraid that wouldn’t be true. 😉

What is true is…

I’m not afraid of some of the things that scare other people.

I know You’ve got my back

and my front
and my sides
and my top
and my…underneath carriage. 😉

But there’s one thing I am afraid of:

Disappointing You.

You’ve done so much for me!

All I want to bring You is joy.
