Pray this Lazaroo in grateful faith:

“…show mercy…”
(Jude 1:23)

That’s what You did when You came to earth, Jesus.

In stunning mercy,

You deliberately chose
to experience what it means to be human..

Because You’re God, You already knew.

But when You entered this world as a baby

for the first time ever
You felt what we feel.

Now, when we come to You with our hurts and sorrows

You’re not limited to intellectual understanding.

You feel it
You get us

You share our emotions
in a way You never did before.

Admit it – as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
(Ecclesiastes 4:11-12)

One more strong reminder, Jesus:

No matter how self-sufficient I feel
I’m not going to do as well all by myself.

No matter how antisocial my personality
sooner or later I’m gonna need somebody.

Please lead me to the right somebody.

In faith and trust, deal with it – as you pray this Lazaroo:

“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.”
(Revelation 3:7)

We don’t respond very well to that initially, Jesus.

We like to appeal decisions we don’t like.
We like to feel we have some measure of control.

But we don’t.

You do hear every prayer I pray according to Your will!

But when I ask for something not best
may I truly be grateful

that Your answer is no.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“When Mordecai learned of all that had been done, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and ashes, and went out into the city, wailing loudly and bitterly.”
(Esther 4:1)

Mordecai felt exactly the way most of us would feel, Jesus

when confronted with horrific, disastrously unacceptable news.

He was right.

The threatened annihilation of all the Jews was catastrophic.

But He was also wrong.

Because You were about to turn this unthinkable situation
into stunning victory.

Help me remember that

next time I’m tempted to lose it over bad news.

Pray this Lazaroo in heart pounding love:

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood…”
(1 Peter 2:9)

It’s awesome to hear this, Jesus!

But it’s also hard to hear.

I don’t feel worthy.
Why would You choose the likes of me?

I don’t feel like royalty.
When I look in the mirror, I see a commoner.

Who am I to function as a priest?
I’ve got my hands full with my sinning self.

But praise Your holy Name!

I don’t have to feel it
for it to be 100% true.

Pray this Lazaroo with sharpened awareness:

“Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right side to accuse him.”
(Zechariah 3:1)

It’s easy to forget that kind of thing happens, Jesus.

I tend to assess the situation
based on what I can see, hear, feel, taste, touch, smell.

But that may be the least of it!

Because I belong to You

I’ve enrolled in a spiritual, life and death battle.

I’d do well to remember that.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“We ought therefore to show hospitality…”
(3 John 1:8)

It’s not enough to feel hospitable, is it, Jesus?

You want me to show it.
Others want me to show it.

But do I?

It’s so easy to become consumed
with my life, my work, my family, my pursuits –

to leave others to focus on their own lives
while I focus on mine.

Clearly, however, that’s not what You desire.

Open my heart, LORD!
to everyone You’re calling into my embrace.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“He is to lay his hand on the goat’s head and slaughter it…”
(Leviticus 4:24)

How could I bear to look that goat in the eye, Jesus?

Feel his warm, innocent head underneath my hand

and know I was about to kill him
for something I had unintentionally done?

But that’s what You required of Your leaders.

You wanted them to see, hear, smell, feel
the price of their careless sin

the very thing my sins
did to You.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…a poor man in shabby clothes…comes in.”
(James 2:2)

It’s a test, isn’t it, Jesus?

What’s my first thought?
What’s the expression on my face?
What do I say?
What do I do?

I don’t have to ask.

You want me to treat him with love, respect, dignity.

Don’t ever, ever, ever allow me to look down on anyone!

You made each and every soul I will ever see.
Help me think, feel, speak and act like it.
