Pray this Lazaroo in growing wisdom:

“…the man who sounded the trumpet stayed with me. Then I said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘The work is extensive and spread out, and we are widely separated from each other along the wall. Wherever you hear the sound of the trumpet, join us there. Our God will fight for us!’”
(Nehemiah 4:18-21)

Nehemiah knew what to let go of, Jesus

and what to keep close.

The trumpeter was key!

With so much at stake

No way was Nehemiah going to send him
to somebody else!

Pray this Lazaroo in Bold, Brave, Belief!

“’Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’ When our enemies heard that we were aware of their plot and that God had frustrated it, we all returned to the wall, each to our own work.”
(Nehemiah 4:14-15)

They were outnumbered, Jesus.

Their enemies’ armies were powerful.

But You responded to their total faith in You with deliverance!

Fill me with such faith, Holy Spirit!
I need You!

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“But when [they] heard that the repairs to Jerusalem’s walls had gone ahead…they were very angry. They all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and stir up trouble against it. But we prayed to our God and posted a guard day and night to meet this threat.”
(Nehemiah 4:7-9)

This is what I need to do, when the forces of evil come against me, Jesus:

Pray my head off.
Take every action You show me to take.
Trust You for the outcome.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful anticipation:

“The Lord their God…will restore their fortunes.”
(Zephaniah 2:7)

When things were going well for me, Jesus, I loved it.

I thought it was always going to be that way.

Then I discovered:

It wasn’t.

My sins caused some of it – maybe all of it.

But it might have simply been
that You needed me to fight some of Your battles.

If my suffering is caused by sin, I’ve got to repent!

Either way, I long to live once more

under the spout
where Your glory comes out!

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

” to…Archippus our fellow soldier…”
(Philemon 1:2)

Paul knew, Jesus:

We’re in a war.

Right against wrong.
Good against evil.
God against Satan.

In a war, you’ve gotta have soldiers

and Paul was so grateful for Archippus!

Like Paul

I’m grateful for every soldier who understands this war
and comes alongside me in the fight.

Most wars are life and death –

small potatoes compared to this one –

which is eternal life and death.

With stakes this high

I need every fellow soldier You provide!

Pray this Lazaroo with renewed resolve:

“Warn them before God against quarreling about words…”
(2 Timothy 2:14)

Why do we do that, Jesus?

Why do we fight and argue and quarrel at all?

Afterwards, it doesn’t make any of us feel good.

It has the potential to damage relationships.

Besides, when I quarrel with another person about some key word in the Bible

all I do is give the enemy of my soul

something else to dissuade the lost

from putting their trust in You.

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“Joab answered, ‘As surely as God lives, if you had not spoken, the men would have continued pursuing them until morning.’ So Joab blew the trumpet, and all the troops came to a halt; they no longer pursued Israel, nor did they fight anymore.”
(2 Samuel 2:27-28)

You’re the one who prompted Joab’s mercy, Jesus.

Both sides were Your people!

No matter what another Christian says or does to me

may I never forget how much You love all your children!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“The battle that day was very fierce…”
(2 Samuel 2:17)

I’ve been in some fierce battles myself, Jesus –

though not, I’m sure, of the same kind
as the armies of Joab and Abner.

Still, my battles were a big deal to me.

But even more importantly
I know they were a big deal to You, as well

because You love me.

I can’t tell You how much that means to me, LORD!

Thank You for Your amazing heart
for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“Whenever Israel went out to fight…”
(Judges 2:15)

It’s tempting to think this is merely a history lesson, Jesus.

I’d like to think:

“I’m so glad I don’t have to go out to fight!”

But that would be self-deception.

The truth is, I’m in the fight of my life.

The moment I put all my trust in You as my Savior

I picked up in Satan
the fiercest, most powerful enemy imaginable

who can’t hold a candle to You.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Joab…and David’s men went out and met them at the pool of Gibeon.”
(2 Samuel 2:13)

This was a showdown, Jesus.

Mana a mano.
Shootout at the OK Corral.

Hundreds of brave, valiant soldiers were about to die.

Was there a better way to settle this?

Absolutely.

All they had to do was obey You.

But half of them wouldn’t
so the other half had no choice.

Give me the courage to fight

but always on Your side.
