Pray this Lazaroo, undeterred:

“The king should know that we went to the district of Judah, to the temple of the great God. The people are building it with large stones and placing the timbers in the walls…We questioned the elders and asked them, ‘Who authorized you to rebuild this temple and to finish it?’”
(Ezra 5:8-9)

Every time I launch something for You, Jesus

Satan will raise up someone to question what I’m doing.

Fine. Let them ask away!

…while I keep right on doing what You’ve called me to do.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“At that time Tattenai, governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai and their associates went to them and asked, ‘Who authorized you to rebuild this temple and to finish it?’ They also asked, ‘What are the names of those who are constructing this building?’”
(Ezra 5:3-4)

Intimidation tactics, Jesus.

Evil people are full of them.

Help me see their wicked strategies a mile away!

Help me deal with their threats and manipulations
with the supernatural wisdom that comes only from You.

May the Hope of God rise within you, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘What are those feeble Jews doing? Will they restore their wall? Will they offer sacrifices? Will they finish in a day? Can they bring the stones back to life from those heaps of rubble—burned as they are?’…’What they are building—even a fox climbing up on it would break down their wall of stones!’”
(Nehemiah 4:2-3)

Maybe those Jews were feeble, Jesus.

Maybe they couldn’t restore the broken down wall of Jerusalem
in a single day.

But how about in 52 days!!!

They stunned the world

because you were with them.

Pray this Lazaroo with renewed determination:

“So Huram finished the work he had undertaken for King Solomon in the temple of God…”
(2 Chronicles 4:11)

So many of us start, Jesus…

so few of us finish

and finish well.

Huram did more than start doing the work You gave him.

He finished it.

Help me not only start doing what You want me to do

when You want me to start it

but help me finish what You want me to do

when You want me to finish it.

Pray this Lazaroo in soul-searching recognition:

“Are you so foolish? After beginning by means of the Spirit, are you now trying to finish by means of the flesh?”
(Galatians 3:3)

When You put it that way, Jesus

it really does sound foolish.

And now that You mention it

that may be what I’m doing –
at least some of the time.

One part of me knows I can’t earn heaven by the good things I do

but there’s another part that still keeps trying.

No.
It’s You.
Not me.

All You.

Pray this Lazaroo with bulldog faith:

“To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations—that one ‘will rule them with an iron scepter and will dash them to pieces like pottery’—just as I have received authority from my Father. I will also give that one the morning star.”
(Revelation 2:26-28)

Your authority? The morning star?

These rewards are unimaginably awesome, Jesus!

Please rise up in power within me!

Help me finish strong!

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“If we endure, we will also reign with him.”
(2 Timothy 2:12)

I’m so thankful for that promise, Jesus!

You didn’t say I’d reign with You if I won.
You didn’t say I’d reign with You if I overcame.
You didn’t say I’d reign with You if I knocked it out of the park.

You said all I’d have to do to reign with You

is endure.

Why am I grateful?

Because some days
that’s all I can do.

Pray this Lazaroo with never-say-die grit:

“If we endure…”
(2 Timothy 2:12)

That’s one big “if,” isn’t it, Jesus?

It’s one thing to start strong.
I’ve done that plenty of times.

But it’s another thing entirely to keep going through the slog of the middle

all the way to the finish line.

The initial burst of excitement wanes.
There’s pushback…there are setbacks.
My run slows to a walk…a trudge…a crawl.

I’ve started far more times than I’ve finished.

But by Your grace
not this time.

Pray this Lazaroo with God-inspired anticipation:

“On the first day…”
(Jonah 3:4)

First days are momentous, Jesus!

They’re full of excitement, promise, hope, new beginnings.

Sometimes.

Of course, I can also dread a first day.

It may represent the unknown.
It may remind me that this is only one step in a very long journey.

But ultimately, I have to keep undertaking first days, don’t I?

If I don’t begin, I’ll never finish.

But I beg You:

Don’t let me begin anything outside of Your will!
