Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me.”
(Malachi 3:1)

You gave this revelation to Malachi, Jesus –

more than 400 years before it was fulfilled
in your cousin John the Baptist.

Your Way. Your Time.

Always perfect.

My way. My time.

Usually flawed!

May I always remember how much You know

and how little I know

how much You see
how little I see.

So when You do it differently than I would

on a different schedule

Help me trust You

completely.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“Every high priest…is able to deal gently with those who are ignorant and are going astray, since he himself is subject to weakness. This is why he has to offer sacrifices for his own sins, as well as for the sins of the people. And no one takes this honor on himself, but he receives it when called by God…”
(Hebrews 5:1-4)

You are amazing, Jesus!

You deliberately choose flawed people to honor
by calling them to do Your perfect work –

which means You can also work through me!

Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“…it is written: ‘So that you may be proved right when you speak and prevail when you judge.’ But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world?”
(Romans 3:4-6)

You are Perfect, Righteous and Just, Jesus.

In our flawed, unrighteous, injustice

how dare we impugn Your judgments?

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…you will be utterly despised.”
(Obadiah 1:2)

Whew! That’s a tough one, Jesus!

But that was the punishment You meted out against Edom
the people descended from Jacob’s older brother.

Why?

Because of the calloused cruelty they exhibited
toward Your hurting, chosen people.

No matter how low one of Your flawed believers sinks

may I never pile on while You’re disciplining them

and risk becoming one of the “utterly despised.”

It’s not my place to add to their misery

lest some of their misery becomes mine.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He then made ten basins for washing and placed five on the south side and five on the north. In them the things to be used for the burnt offerings were rinsed, but the Sea was to be used by the priests for washing.”
(2 Chronicles 4:6)

So even back then, Jesus

You were demanding clean offerings

clean hands.

But only You

can purify these flawed, imperfect gifts
I offer up to You.

Only You

can cleanse these hands of mine
that have done so much sinning!

Pray this Lazaroo in fervent spirit:

“This is what the Sovereign Lord says about Edom…”
(Obadiah 1:1)

Edom, Jesus.

The people descended from Esau
whom You rejected in favor of his twin brother Jacob.

Though he was deeply flawed, You loved Jacob
but hated Esau – along with his descendants.

This makes me wonder:

If that’s what You said about Jacob and Esau
what do you say about me?

Whatever You didn’t like about Esau, keep from me!

But cause to rise up within me
whatever You loved about Jacob.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep longing:

“When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, “Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.”
(John 1:47)

When I approach You, Jesus

Is that what You see?
No deceit?

Oh, how I long for that to be true of me!

But it’s hard.
I so want people to like me.

Dare I let them know how flawed I am?

Ha! Who am I kidding?

Not only You – but they –

have a pretty good idea.

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They will come trembling to the LORD…”
(Hosea 3:5)

That’s not a bad way to come to You, Jesus.

It sure beats coming to You full of pride.
It’s better than coming to You burning with anger.
It’s preferable to coming to You eaten up with doubt.

When I come to You with trembling

it’s because I realize how small I am
and how awesome You Are

how flawed and sinful I am
and how perfect, righteous and holy You Are.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…the God of…Isaac…”
(Exodus 3:16)

It helps to see who You’re willing to be associated with, Jesus.

Isaac was born when his dad Abraham was 100 years old
and his mother Sarah was 90!

Abraham almost sacrificed him
because that’s what he thought You wanted.

No, Isaac wasn’t perfect.

He lied about his wife.
Played favorites with his children.

But You accomplished great things through this flawed man.

Please, LORD!

Accomplish great things through even more deeply flawed

me.

Pray this Lazaroo in baffled amazement:

“So the king of Israel set out with the king of Judah…”
(2 Kings 3:9)

Talk about being unequally yoked, Jesus…

the king of Judah was honoring You
the king of Israel was not.

Still, You worked stunning miracles and gave this flawed partnership victory against their enemies on that day.

Why? Because it further advanced Your Plan of the Ages.

You’ll work through the worst of us and the best of us, won’t You?

…along with everybody in-between.
