Pray this Lazaroo with enlightened understanding:

“Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them…”
(Titus 2:9)

In today’s world, Jesus

we’d be hard-pressed to find a single public figure
who would affirm this passage of Scripture.

But that’s because we just don’t get it, do we?

Paul wanted slave masters to be blown away
by the amazing difference there was in slaves who follow you
contrasted with everyone else.

He knew that would bring glory to You

and a better life to those trapped
in the evil of slavery.

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered awareness:

“I will not punish your daughters when they turn to prostitution, nor your daughters-in-law when they commit adultery, because the men themselves consort with harlots and sacrifice with shrine prostitutes—a people without understanding will come to ruin!”
(Hosea 4:14)

Give me understanding, Jesus!

Especially help me grasp the power of my example.

You certainly do –

excusing the sins of these young women
because of the awful example set before them.

May everyone who looks to me

safely follow my steps

as I follow Yours.

Pray this Lazaroo in awed anticipation:

“Who is this coming up from the wilderness like a column of smoke, perfumed with myrrh and incense made from all the spices of the merchant? Look! It is Solomon’s carriage, escorted by sixty warriors, the noblest of Israel, all of them wearing the sword, all experienced in battle, each with his sword at his side, prepared for the terrors of the night.”
(Song of Songs 3:6-8)

What an amazing sight, Jesus!

But a far better one is coming

when I follow You on Your great white horse

into end-time battle!

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me,’ Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.”
(Mark 2:13-14)

He didn’t ask, “Where are You going?” Jesus.

He didn’t have to.
It wasn’t about the destination.

His only focus was You.

Wherever You’re going

is fine with me.

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast faith:

“Then the Lord said to me, ‘You have made your way around this hill country long enough; now turn north. Give the people these orders: “You are about to pass through the territory of your relatives the descendants of Esau…”’”
(Deuteronomy 2:2-4)

Change my direction anytime You like, Jesus!

I have no desire to go my own way.
I’ve spent way too much time traveling that way in the past.

From here on
Let’s go Your way.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“‘In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.’ These are the people who divide you…”
(Jude 1:18-19)

These people like to divide and conquer, don’t they, Jesus?

They’ll tell any lie
twist any truth
to secure an advantage.

They delight in turning one person against another

leaving them in the driver’s seat with both.

Help me see through them, Holy Spirit!

May I strive for unity
with all who wholeheartedly follow You.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“…he preached the word to them.”
(Mark 2:2)

Oh, to have been there to hear You preach, Jesus!

I try to imagine what it must have been like…but I can’t.

You taught the Word like no one ever has or can

because You ARE The Word.

Many people believed You and followed You from that moment on.

But many others did not.

I can’t comprehend that level of blindness!

…until I remember how many times I’ve failed to obey.

Pray this Lazaroo in overflowing adoration:

“For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous…”
(Psalms 5:12)

Yes, You do, Jesus!

They follow You with their whole hearts
and reap the benefits of walking in Your footsteps

experiencing the joy of living each day
in deep, moment-by-moment, 1on1 relationship with You.

But what truly boggles my mind

is that You also bless the wannabe righteous
those not quite yet thinking, speaking, acting
as they know they should –

…which is how I get to enjoy Your blessings.

Pray this Lazaroo in repentant sorrow:

“Why do we profane the covenant of our fathers…?”
(Malachi 2:10)

How many Godly people have gone before me, Jesus?

Not merely those I know…
what about those I’ve never met or heard of?

How many prayers did they pray for me –

not even knowing my name?

All they knew was they wanted those who would come after them

to love and follow You with their whole hearts
just as they themselves did.

In me:

Answer their prayers!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“He was faithful to the one who appointed him…”
(Hebrews 3:2)

The writer is talking about You, Jesus –

faithful to the Father who appointed You!

In light of the fact that You were persecuted, tortured and crucified

that’s faithfulness unlike anything I’ve been called to do.

Nevertheless, I want to follow Your example.

I want to be faithful to the one who appointed me:

You.

I hope it doesn’t involve torture and crucifixion

but whatever it requires…

be my strength!
