Pray this Lazaroo in growing wisdom:

“Stop chasing me! Why should I strike you down?”
(2 Samuel 2:22)

Abner had the ability to kill Asahel, Jesus

but he didn’t want to.

He knew if Asahel continued to press his attack, he’d have to defend himself

and it would end badly.

But of course, Asahel thought he could kill Abner, so he refused to listen

and it cost him his life.

O God!

Eradicate from my life every shred of empty bravado
and every foolish pursuit!

Be dumbfounded as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…they are…faithless…”
(Romans 1:31)

That’s an insupportable state to be in, Jesus.

To have no faith in You is not only unintelligent.

It’s foolish.
It’s also blind, dumb, deaf, unfeeling, tasteless.
It’s unthinking and unthinkable.
It’s stubborn, hardhearted, hardheaded, mulish.

And those are their best traits.

A person who has no faith in You is giving up everything worthwhile

in exchange for everything that’s worthless.

A faithless man or woman can’t be followed, can’t be believed

can’t be trusted.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted dedication:

“Like the fool, the wise too must die!”
(Ecclesiastes 2:16)

Solomon’s right, Jesus.

But the death of the fool who says You don’t exist
is radically different from the death of the wise person

who knows You do –
and trusts You as Savior!

In fact, it’s the wise person who is most aware that death is coming.

Fools do their best to ignore their mortality
living each day for themselves, rather than for You.

Big…big…BIG mistake.

Take a step back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?”
(2 Kings 3:7)

Three kings, Jesus –

Joram, wicked King of Israel
Jehoshaphat, good King of Judah
The evil, rebellious King of Moab

So one evil king asks the good king to help him fight against the other evil king

and because the good king knows they were once brothers
he agrees.

Please, LORD –

give me the wisdom to avoid messes like that!

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“…she took some and ate it.”
(Genesis 3:6)

No!

No! No! No!

Is that what You said when Eve bit the forbidden fruit, Jesus?

Was that the cry of Your holy angels
when she caved in to Satan’s temptation?

Better question:

Is that how You feel when I do the same?

When I read about Adam and Eve’s fall

I shake my head in sorrow.

“Why can’t they see what a foolish thing they’re doing?”

Then the thought:

“Why can’t I?”

Go to school, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The fate of the fool will overtake me also…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:15)

Solomon’s right, Jesus:

Just as the person who foolishly disbelieves in you
will one day breathe their last on this earth

so will those who believe in You with all their hearts.

But Solomon was also wrong:

Unlike the unbelieving fool
every believer who closes their eyes here

will open them in heaven.

Sadly, as he grew older, Solomon disobeyed You.

May I not follow his foolish example.

Pray this Lazaroo in steadfast belief:

“…we will not be responsible.”
(Joshua 2:19)

And they weren’t, Jesus!

I take my stand on Your promise:

If with all my heart I endeavor to please You in everything I think, say and do

if I warn those who are going astray
if I give chance after chance to those who’ve wronged me

I am not responsible for their wicked, defiant, foolish behavior

no matter how adamantly they or others
try to place that blame on my shoulders.

Pray this Lazaroo in desperate transparency:

“…the fool walks in the darkness…”
(Ecclesiastes 2:14)

I’ve taken more than one of those dark walks, Jesus

Didn’t enjoy it.
Felt like the fool I was.

I don’t want to do that anymore!

With every step I take, I long to walk in Your Light.
I long to see clearly, act wisely.

But only You can rescue me from the wrong choices that will inevitably shroud my path in the blindness known all too well

by God-ignoring fools.

Beg God for understanding, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…He gives…knowledge to the discerning.”
(Daniel 2:20-21)

At first glance this hardly seems fair, Jesus.

Discerning people already possess significant knowledge.
Why load them up with more?

Is it because the more You give a discerning person

the more they do with it?

On the other hand…

even when You inundate a foolish person with countless blessings
all they do is ignore, disrespect or squander them.

Which am I?
