Pray this Lazaroo in grateful awareness:

“Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, ‘Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?’”
(Mark 2:6-7)

When you forgave this man’s sins, Jesus

these religious experts made an astute observation:

“Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

But they were blind to the reality

that they were hearing those words of forgiveness

from God Himself.

Who can forgive my countless sins?

Oh, Jesus!
Only You.

Pray this Lazaroo in prioritized humility:

“…I have forgiven…in order that Satan might not outwit us.”
(2 Corinthians 2:10-11)

When the sin against me is small, Jesus

forgiveness isn’t too tough.

I can shrug it off, chalk it up to…

“Nobody’s perfect. Everybody makes mistakes.”

But when someone betrays me, deliberately stabs me in the back

I really struggle to let it go.

Satan knows that. After all, he’s the original backstabber.

I need Your help, Father!

so that Satan doesn’t have the last laugh.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Anyone you forgive, I also forgive.”
(2 Corinthians 2:10)

That’s some statement, Jesus…

and Paul made it to an entire churchful of people!

Not only that, he was extending that forgiveness

to the very person he told them to put out of the church.

Am I willing to forgive everyone my church forgives?

Well…why not?

You’ve made it clear that if I don’t forgive those who’ve sinned against me

You won’t forgive me.

I forgive ‘em all, LORD!

Take warning as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The metal on the chariots flashes…”
(Nahum 2:3)

It’s happening in broad daylight, Jesus

and there’s not one thing the Ninevites can do about it.
This punishment is from You.

Why?

It was their cruelty, wasn’t it?
their witchcraft and prostitution.

You sent your prophet Jonah to warn them.

They listened! Repented!
You relented.

But after You showed them kindness

they went right back to it.

O God!

May I never repeat their mistake
in response to Your grace.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy introspection:

“…does what is forbidden in any of the commands of the LORD his God, he is guilty.”
(Leviticus 4:22)

No difference between big and small sins there, Jesus.

If I break any of Your commands – no matter how tiny –
I’m guilty.

Of course, that doesn’t mean there’s no difference.

If I lie about my age
that’s not as bad as a mass murderer.

But both – my tiny one and his horrific one –

are still sins…

…and I’m still guilty.

Pray this Lazaroo in sold-out surrender:

“None who go to her…attain the paths of life.”
(Proverbs 2:19)

Terrifying words, Jesus.

At first glance, they leave no hope.

It sounds as though anyone who has ever committed adultery

is condemned to hell
no matter what.

But that’s not what You’re saying.

The word, “go” is present tense.

If a person stops sinning

that makes it past tense.

If they quit for You, turning to You with all their heart, they have Your promise:

They will live.

Pray this Lazaroo with white-hot fervor:

“They are…disobedient…”
(Titus 1:16)

May that never be said about me, Jesus…

…in the future.

That’s my one hope – my future obedience in You.

Because I’ve had a disobedient past.

Most people hold others’ pasts against them.

Some of us even hold it against ourselves.

But You’re the God of the Fresh Start!

You’re the only one who can erase
the failures of my permanent record.

You’re the only one who can take my ugly

and make it beautiful.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…they will be forgiven.”
(Leviticus 4:20)

Forgiveness is an awesome thing, Jesus.

That’s the only reason I’m able to spend this 1on1 time with You.

So why is it so hard for me to be happy that You’re willing to forgive those who’ve deeply hurt me?

I know I’m supposed to.
And I try.

But the idea of them getting away scot free for what they did to me

galls me.

Help me!

I want to forgive like You.
