Pray this Lazaroo with passionate gratitude:

“My loved one had a vineyard on a fertile hillside. He dug it up and cleared it of stones and planted it with the choicest vines. He built a watchtower in it and cut out a winepress as well. Then he looked for a crop of good grapes, but it yielded only bad fruit.”
(Isaiah 5:1-2)

That’s how beautifully You’ve treated me, Jesus

and how horribly I’ve treated You.

Please forgive me!

I desperately want You to receive full value
for Your loving investment in me!

Pray this Lazaroo with catalytic dedication:

“In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel. Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem.”
(Isaiah 4:2-3)

You’re the Branch, Jesus –

the promised Messiah!

You came, You taught, You worked miracles

then gave Your life on the cross
that all who trust You will have eternal life!

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“Surely he has done great things! Do not be afraid, land of Judah; be glad and rejoice. Surely the Lord has done great things! Do not be afraid, you wild animals, for the pastures in the wilderness are becoming green. The trees are bearing their fruit; the fig tree and the vine yield their riches.”
(Joel 2:20-22)

It’s all about You, Jesus

not my circumstances.

It doesn’t matter that my present landscape is barren.

You’re faithful.
You’re on Your way.

As I keep my eyes fixed on You

my desert will blossom!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“Now it is your turn!”
(Habakkuk 2:16)

Normally, Jesus –

when it’s finally my turn, I’m so happy!
I’m filled with excitement!

Not this time.

You’re telling me that if I take unfair advantage of others

I’ve planted deep into Your soil of justice a seed

that will sprout, send up shoots, bud, flower
and produce bitter fruit.

Then my turn will come to take not one bite

but to choke down every bit of it
until I vomit.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.”
(1 Timothy 2:14)

Eve’s sin was bad, Jesus

but Adam’s was worse.

Adam wasn’t deceived. He knew better and ate the forbidden fruit anyway.

His wife handed him the fruit
so he accepted it and ate it.

Pleasing his wife was more important to him than pleasing You

making her humankind’s first idol.

May I never put anyone or anything ahead of You!

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“To Adam he said, ‘Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, “You must not eat from it,” Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life.’”
(Genesis 3:17)

You told Abraham to listen to his wife, Jesus.

So that’s not what got Adam cursed.

It was when he listened to his wife

instead of You.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.”
(Matthew 3:9-10)

If I’m really Your child, Jesus

I’ll produce fruit.

Not just any fruit.
Good fruit.

The alternative…I don’t even want to think about.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit.”
(Haggai 2:19)

That’s no accident, is it, Jesus?

It’s an unmistakable pattern that points to You.

Sometimes – for Your own perfect reasons – You keep my life fruitless

to teach…to get my attention…to humble me.

Oh, but I love those words, “Until now!”

When I’ve learned my lesson
when You’ve got my attention
when I’ve been humbled

the fruit will come!

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“The fig tree forms its early fruit…”
(Song of Songs 2:13)

So I guess that means there must be a late fruit too, Jesus

and an on-time fruit. 😉

But there has to be something special about the early fruit!

That first taste – so good and sweet
especially after a long time without.

Is that why You came up with the idea of a firstfruits offering?

For sure, You deserve it –
because all my “fruit” comes from You.

Pray this Lazaroo with renewed determination:

“They are…autumn trees, without fruit…”
(Jude 1:13)

Even if I love autumn, Jesus

may that never be said of me.

You’ve planted me for a purpose.

Ultimately, it’s not to look good, sporting lots of leaves.
That assignment has been given to shade trees.

I’m a fruit tree.
Fruit trees have one purpose:

Produce fruit.

May there be men, women, boys and girls who come to experience You in deep, daily, moment-by-moment, 1on1 relationship

because of You
in me.
