Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Joram son of Ahab became king of Israel…and he reigned twelve years.”
(2 Kings 3:1)

I read this and move on, Jesus

not thinking about how it felt to Joram.

How excited he must have been to become the next king!

His dad was in power 22 years.
No doubt he believed he could easily top that.

But he didn’t.

How long will I reign over my little kingdom, LORD?

You alone know!
Help me make it count.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“…through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow…”
(Philippians 1:26)

I long to have that effect on others, Jesus!

to be the bearer of good news
to be used by You to draw others close to You.

Ironically, that sometimes requires me to start with the bad news

that they – like I – are sinners who need to repent
that refusal to repent and believe in Your

death
burial
resurrection

will land them eternally in hell.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“ ‘I have one request’…’You may make it,’ she said.”
(1 Kings 2:16)

It’s one thing to let someone make a request, Jesus

quite another to grant it.

The moment Bathsheba allowed Adonijah to make his request, she felt obligated to say yes.

Needlessly.

In this case, foolishly.

Please remind me to separate the two!

Please give me the wisdom to discern among

good
better
best.

along with the courage to reject

every request
that isn’t best.

Pray this Lazaroo with full-on ardor:

“…God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions…”
(Ephesians 2:4-5)

It’s hard for me to get this straight, Jesus

because – except for Your love, mercy, forgiveness and power –
it’s too good to be true.

But let me see if I understand this –
except that it’s beyond my understanding!

You swooped down and transformed me from death to life

while I was still wallowing helplessly in my sin.

Wow.
Wow.
Oh, wow!

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Meanwhile, Abner…had taken…”
(2 Samuel 2:8)

There’s always a “meanwhile,” isn’t there, Jesus?

No matter how many victories You give me

somebody isn’t pleased
was fervently hoping I’d lose

while Satan is always there
plotting to take back the ground I won.

It’s good to celebrate every victory, praising Your great Name

but I never want to take it to the point where I brag and gloat

because there’s always a “meanwhile”
lurking just around the corner.

Pray this Lazaroo in trusting contentment:

“…they saw that I had been entrusted with the task of preaching the gospel to the Gentiles, just as Peter had been to the Jews.”
(Galatians 2:7)

What a fulfilling moment, Jesus…

to finally recognize why You’ve put me on this earth

and at the same time

to be able to celebrate the fact that someone else
has a different mission.

So many mistakenly attempt to clone the mission of someone they view as successful

and risk missing out on the calling You’ve given to them.
