Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“She who was barren has borne seven children…”
(1 Samuel 2:5)

Well…not everyone would like to give birth to seven children, Jesus

…except maybe someone who can’t give birth to one.

Seven kids might be a heap of hassle, challenge, expense and trouble

but it beats none.

If you want children.

Where am I hopelessly barren, LORD?

Where have I given up in total defeat?

Do You want to work through me to create life?

If so…

bring on the seven.

Plan with humility as you pray this Lazaroo:

“I wrote as I did so that when I came I should not be distressed…”
(2 Corinthians 2:3)

Sometimes that helps, Jesus.

Sometimes I can fix things from afar
prepare the way without being there.

When it works, it’s a real time-saver.

But there are times when I have to leave where I am

and go where they are.

Long distance has its benefits

and its limitations.

But which to use when?

Oh, how I need Your wisdom, Father!
Every day.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful acknowledgment:

“…she found herself working in a field belonging to Boaz…”
(Ruth 2:3)

We human beings behave as though these things in our possession belong to us, don’t we, Jesus?

But they don’t.
They’re Yours.

All of it.

You’ve entrusted these fields, houses, cars, electronics, tools, buildings, toys, friends, neighbors, family members into my care.

You’ve made me responsible for them.
You expect me to do something useful with them and for them.

Something that brings glory
to their Owner.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning zeal:

“Therefore, as it is written…”
(1 Corinthians 1:31)

That settles it for me, Jesus!

If it’s in Your Word
I’m doing it.

Period.

Of course I should attempt to understand why!

You love explaining things to me.
I love figuring them out.

(Although I wonder how many things I’ve “figured out”
are a total miss.)

Which acknowledges the elephant in the room:

I want to faithfully obey Your Word
but first I have to understand it.

O Holy Spirit…

help me!

Pray this Lazaroo in faithful allegiance:

“…the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals.”
(Judges 2:11)

How could this happen, Jesus –

especially to Your people?

They decided You were the God to turn to in times of crises

but Baal was the god of everyday life
whom they could worship with temple prostitutes.

But You’re not only the God who can part the Red Sea

You’re also the God of my morning, noon and night

the Friend

who sticks closer than a brother.

Pray this Lazaroo in the fear of God:

“Men committed indecent acts with other men…”
(Romans 1:27)

You just lay it right out there, don’t You, Jesus?

As with heterosexual sin, Your Word makes it clear:
homosexual acts aren’t new.

You detested that perversion thousands of years ago
and continue to do so today.

For a while, homosexuality went underground.

No longer.

Today it’s out and proud

doing its best to become mainstream
recognized as a civil right

just as in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Pray this Lazaroo from an obedient heart:

“This oath you made us swear will not be binding on us unless…”
(Joshua 2:17-18)

There’s always a catch, isn’t there, Jesus?

Every time I hear something wonderful
there’s fine print.

Every promise
comes with strings attached.

We celebrate Your “unconditional love”
because we don’t want to face a stubborn fact:

Hell exists.

No, I can’t earn heaven.

But if I want heaven to be my home
neither can I refuse to believe:

that You are God the Son who died for my sins
and rose from the grave.
