Pray this Lazaroo with deep longing:

“Turn, O LORD, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.”
(Psalms 6:4)

David is asking you to turn toward Him, Jesus –

as though You had looked away.

Of course, You hadn’t!

But sometimes when we’re in deep distress
it feels like it.

I know:

You never turn Your back on me.

You’re always right here, watching over me

sustaining me through every anguishing trial

using it to teach me
and make me strong.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“…that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:14)

That’s wild, Jesus!

To share in Your glory?

How can human beings do that?

We absolutely don’t deserve it.
Not even the best of us.

Especially not the worst of us –
the category to which I belong.

But that’s Your love, Your outrageous kindness

Your overwhelming generosity!

Nor are we to keep Your glory to ourselves.

We’re to make sure others get in on it, too.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…the exiles…will possess the towns…”
(Obadiah 1:20)

Exiles are supposed to have zero rights, Jesus.

How in the world could they possess entire towns?

The answer is clear and startling:

The world didn’t do this for them!

You did.

This has Your Signature all over it.

You absolutely love to lift up
the broken, the fallen, the marginalized

those who are laughed at, disrespected
tossed to the curb

displaying in them Your love and mercy
for all the world to see.

Pray this Lazaroo in total allegiance:

“…what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband…”
(Ruth 2:11)

Boaz nailed it, Jesus.

It wasn’t what Ruth did for her mother-in-law while her husband lived.
That could have been out of love for her husband.

It was what she did for her mother-in-law after her husband died.
That was what demonstrated her love for her mother-in law.

Show me how to love others with Your love – for Your sake.

No other incentive needed.

Pray this Lazaroo in grateful awe:

“…the exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad…”
(Obadiah 1:20)

Out of 66 books, 1,189 chapters, 41,173 verses and 774,746 words

this is the only place in the Bible that mentions Sepharad, Jesus.

Where is it? Nobody knows.

Well, of course they knew where it was back then, but today?

Not so much.

Maybe Iran, Turkey, Iberia, even Spain.

Or not.

How awesome that such an obscure, forgettable place of exile

cannot hide Your love for Your scattered people.

Cling to God’s promises, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Before them…the sky trembles.”
(Joel 2:10)

Those are some fearsome creatures You created, Jesus!

Punishment You inflicted on Your own people –
a terrifying swarm of supernatural locusts.

No wonder the very sky trembled!

But if I tremble before You –

terrified to sin against Your greatness, majesty, love and wisdom –

I’ll never have to tremble because of Your punishment.

Sadly, I’ve failed at that in the past

and experienced Your loving discipline…

which steered me all the way back

to You.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“They will come trembling to the LORD and to his blessings…”
(Hosea 3:5)

What a fascinating juxtaposition, Jesus:

“trembling”…and “blessing.”

So as I look at this, here’s what I’m wondering:

Do You bless those who approach You with trembling?

Well, I know You bless everyone in ways beyond counting.

But do You reserve a special blessing for those
who tremble because they recognize more than most

Your greatness, majesty, wisdom, love and power?

Awesome God!
I come trembling!

Be overwhelmed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘…how evil and bitter it is for you when you…have no awe of me,’ declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.”
(Jeremiah 2:19)

Awe isn’t an option, Jesus –

not when it comes to You.

When I gaze into the starry nighttime sky or hold a newborn baby

I should be filled with awe over Your amazing creativity
and the miracle of human life.

When I consider my wholly undeserved salvation

I should be overwhelmed in grateful awe for your love and mercy.

Rejoice! as you pray your Lazaroo on this glorious Christmas day:

“…boasting of what we have and do…”
(1 John 2:16)

Why do we do that, Jesus?

Everything we have or do comes from You!

Better question:

Why do I do that?

Because – God help me! – I do.

I guess it’s because I want people to think well of me.

But why? I’m nothing but a dirty, rotten sinner saved by grace.

Your outrageous, inconceivable love

is the only reason my punishment in hell
has been switched to eternal joy in heaven.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…comfort from his love…”
(Philippians 2:1)

Oh, Jesus.

There’s no greater comfort than Your love!

Your love is real.
Your love is strong.
Your love is warm.
Your love is encouraging.
Your love is consistent.
Your love is precious.
Your love is everlasting –

for You love me best when I deserve it least.

The love of all others combined cannot compare

except badly.

When I’m beautifully loved by others

I discover that they’re loving me

with Your love.
