Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger…”
(Jonah 3:8-9)

The king of Ninevah was right, Jesus!

That’s exactly what You did.

How many times have You done that very thing
down through the years?

When I humble myself, turn from my wicked ways

and cast myself on Your mercy

You look into my heart

see the sincerity there

and relent.

Pray this Lazaroo with full-on ardor:

“…we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart.”
(2 Corinthians 3:18-4:1)

Keep the transformation coming, Jesus.

I have such a long way to go!

But I trust You. I believe in You. I know You Are God and I know You are Good.

I will not lose heart.

Pray this Lazaroo in total amazement:

“The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”
(Genesis 3:21)

Humanly speaking, this is incomprehensible, Jesus.

Adam and Eve knowingly, deliberately, blatantly disobey You.
As a result, they discover they’re naked.

Of course, there are consequences:

They have to leave the Garden of Eden.
Work and childbirth become harder, more painful.

But instead of abandoning them

You clothe them!

O God! Your loving mercy is unfathomable!

…which is why I’m still drawing a breath on this earth.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“‘Many times I struck your gardens and vineyards, destroying them with blight and mildew. Locusts devoured your fig and olive trees, yet you have not returned to me,’ declares the Lord.”
(Amos 4:9)

When our hearts are stubborn and unrepentant, Jesus

this is what it comes to.

Because Your loving kindness doesn’t compel us

all that’s left is pain.

O God!

May I respond to Your love
Your generosity to me
Your goodness, mercy and forgiveness!

May I never bring upon myself

Your wrath.

Pray this Lazaroo in unvarnished awareness:

“’Although you wash yourself with soap and use an abundance of cleansing powder, the stain of your guilt is still before me,’ declares the Sovereign Lord.”
(Jeremiah 2:22)

I can’t wash away my own sin, can I, Jesus?

A physical scrubbing can’t erase a spiritual offense.

My only hope is Your love, mercy and forgiveness!

And on the cross – HALLELUJAH!

You demonstrated all three.

Accordingly, I’ve got to place 0% of my faith in me

and 100% in You.

Be overcome with gratitude as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…if we are faithless, he will remain faithful…”
(2 Timothy 2:13)

Could there ever be greater evidence of Your love, Jesus?

Of Your mercy?
Of Your forgiveness?
Of Your kindness?
Of Your patience?
Of Your longsuffering?

Or of Your sovereignty!

Another way to look at it is that nothing I do
can change what You do
nor who You are!

You are faithful. Period.

That’s what I, too, as Your grateful follower
with all my heart aspire to be.

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“The LORD will…again choose Jerusalem.”
(Zechariah 2:12)

It’s devastating to be rejected by You, Jesus!

Of course, that only happens
when we’ve first rejected You.

Justice demands that our rejection of You

should result in our permanent rejection.

But Your mercy triumphs over justice!

When we have been humbled
when we have repented
when we have returned to You with all our hearts

after You have disciplined us less than our sins deserve

oh, hallelujah! You’ll choose us again!

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…the exiles…will possess the towns…”
(Obadiah 1:20)

Exiles are supposed to have zero rights, Jesus.

How in the world could they possess entire towns?

The answer is clear and startling:

The world didn’t do this for them!

You did.

This has Your Signature all over it.

You absolutely love to lift up
the broken, the fallen, the marginalized

those who are laughed at, disrespected
tossed to the curb

displaying in them Your love and mercy
for all the world to see.

Be overwhelmed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“‘…how evil and bitter it is for you when you…have no awe of me,’ declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.”
(Jeremiah 2:19)

Awe isn’t an option, Jesus –

not when it comes to You.

When I gaze into the starry nighttime sky or hold a newborn baby

I should be filled with awe over Your amazing creativity
and the miracle of human life.

When I consider my wholly undeserved salvation

I should be overwhelmed in grateful awe for your love and mercy.
