Remember! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…to the day when the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid.”
(Haggai 2:18)

You’re asking Your people to think back to the glorious day

when Your hand of blessing was upon them, Jesus.

Not so, now.

Why? Was it because You had changed?

No. You’re the same yesterday, today and forever.

Your people – so blessed! – had turned their backs on You.

They had forgotten the Founder of their feast.

That’s a mistake
I don’t ever want to make.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“You drive the women of my people from their pleasant homes.”
(Micah 2:9)

You love the women You’ve created, Jesus –

especially those descended from Abraham.

But when they sin again and again –

rejecting You, following other gods –

they’ll pay for their disobedience
and their detestable idolatry.

Though You’ve blessed me time after time beyond measure

If I reject You and put other things and people before You
You’ll do the same to me

because You discipline those You love.

Gratefully rejoice as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the exiles from Judah…”
(Daniel 2:25)

Anytime a leader comes across an exile from Judah, Jesus

they’d be wise to give that person a second look.

Your people who’ve been torn from their homeland

still retain Your blessing wherever they go.

I’m blown away that even while You punish one of Your own

You keep blessing them.

I can testify!

Though You’ve had to discipline me countless times

I’m the grateful recipient of more blessings
than I can count.

Pray this Lazaroo in honest self-assessment:

“These people are…faultfinders…”
(Jude 1:16)

Okay, Jesus –

When my job is quality control
I have to find and report every fault! 😉

But when it comes to my relationships with others?

What they need most from me is encouragement
not relentless criticism.

How often do Your people fall short because of discouragement –

especially when somebody comes along
and nitpicks them to death?

Why would I ever do that?

Maybe because I’d rather find fault in others
than in myself.

Be amazed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the army had no more water…”
(2 Kings 3:9)

They were Your people, Jesus

but they failed to plan ahead.

They rushed off on their mission

but failed to think the whole thing through.

Sadly, I can identify.

How many times, LORD? How many times?

Still, You didn’t leave them hanging!

You came through for them – miraculously.

I deserve it less than they did, LORD…

but again and again and again
You still keep coming through for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with over-the-top trust:

“Anyone else who approached the sanctuary was to be put to death.”
(Numbers 3:38)

I don’t pretend to know every reason behind that command, Jesus.

But I can guess one of them:

You wanted Your people to regard You
with knee-trembling awe.

It’s hard for us to leave our sinful ways.

We need all the incentive we can get!

That rule is no longer in effect.

The sanctuary is long gone.

But I will forever approach You

in reverent awe.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Because of you the LORD became angry with me…”
(Deuteronomy 1:37)

Well…not exactly, Jesus.

You didn’t become angry with Moses
because of what the Israelites did.

You became angry with Moses
because of his response to what they did.

Everybody stands before You for their own actions –

not those of someone else –

because we’re all accountable directly to You.

So maybe I’d better focus on my own
thoughts, words, actions

instead of trying to control – or blame – somebody else.

Pray this Lazaroo in horrified realization:

“Their land is full of horses; there is no end to their chariots.”
(Isaiah 2:7)

…as is true of us, Jesus!

In developed countries
even our poor have cars and big screen TVs.

In third-world countries
leaders reach out to the world on cell phones.

But as with Judah and Jerusalem

our riches have lied to us, distracted us, sidetracked us.

How many of us, once faithful to You and so blessed

have turned Your blessings into idols?

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…your people…practice divination like the Philistines…”
(Isaiah 2:6)

If You had a gizzard, Jesus

that would have fried it.

The heathen peoples surrounding them sought the will of false gods by examining inanimate objects such as rods, arrows, cups, animal livers.

They attempted to interpret dreams
consulted so-called holy people and idols.

That Your very own people would turn to all that instead of You?

Unconscionable.

Almost as bad as the so-called unscriptural “experts” we rely on today.

Pray this Lazaroo with Banzai belief:

“…you will have no one in the assembly of the LORD…”
(Micah 2:5)

What a tough punishment, Jesus!

When I signed up to follow You
I knew non-believers might desert me.

But I thought I’d always be able to rely on Your people!

Usually I can
but not always.

If I turn my back on You

they may turn their backs on me.

Not to mention If they turn their backs on You

they may turn their backs on me.
