Pray this Lazaroo in sobered reflection:

“…the God of Israel, declares: ‘I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever.’ But now the Lord declares: ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained.’”
(1 Samuel 2:30)

So much for the name-it-and-claim-it crowd, Jesus.

I can’t stand on every promise You’ve ever made
if I’m not standing faithfully with You.

May I honor you, my Savior

with everything I think, say and do!

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“…Ruth stayed close to the women of Boaz to glean until the barley and wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.”
(Ruth 2:23)

This wasn’t the life Ruth thought You were going to give her, Jesus

but trusting You, she embraced it anyway –

and oh, the reward that was finally hers!

Help me follow her example

believing with everything in me that in Your way and time

every promise You’ve made to me
will come true.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
(Revelation 2:10)

I know Your promise is true, Jesus!

It motivates me.

But knowing that being faithful to You might lead me to be tortured to death

puts a damper on my enthusiasm.

That may not be the path You’ve chosen for me

but why not?
Countless millions of Your followers have been martyrs.

So if it is…

help me remain faithful.

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…as he promised…”
(1 Kings 2:24)

That’s You, Jesus…all the way.

You’ve made countless promises to those You love
and to Your enemies

and You keep every one of them.

We’re not used to that from anyone else!

Even the best of us fail to keep all our promises –

not because we’re unwilling or don’t try –

but because we’re human.

Sometimes we write checks
that our wishful thinking humanity can’t cash.

Thank God!
You have no such limitation.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…the kingdom he promised those who love him…”
(James 2:5)

When You make a promise, Jesus

You keep it.

Though inadequately…I do love You!

That means the kingdom You promised

is mine.

Wow.

I don’t know what it will look like.

I’m not even sure what all it means.

But this I do know about You:

Whatever glorious, awesome, mind-blowing grandeur I can imagine

You will surpass.

That should get me through these rough patches in the meantime.

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“I will give him…the land he set his feet on…”
(Deuteronomy 1:36)

That’s quite a promise, Jesus.

Of course, Caleb deserved it.

When 10 of the 12 men Moses sent to spy out Canaan returned

only he and Joshua believed You would keep Your promise
and enable the Israelites to take it.

I’m no Caleb, Father.

But with all my heart
I believe You will keep Your promises to me!

Please.

Give me the land You’ve reserved for me.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“The LORD has spoken.”
(Obadiah 1:18)

That’s what’s said when You’ve handed down Your verdict, Jesus.

There’s a finality to it

as though The Judge’s gavel has fallen

reverberating throughout eternity.

When it’s worded like that

it’s usually bad news.

But You also speak amazing promises, LORD!

These, too, are good for all time.

Your promises to Your loving, obedient people

can never, ever be broken.

May every happy, faithful promise in Your book

be forever  mine.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Those who cling to worthless idols…”
(Jonah 2:8)

But why would anyone do that, Jesus?

It’s because of their temporary pleasures, isn’t it?

Emphasis on the temporary
‘cause they sure don’t last.

Too, it’s because of their false promises, isn’t it?

They can’t deliver on their boasts.
There’s always a deadly twist.

Not so with You, Father!

The pleasure of following faithfully after You
grows with each passing year

while You keep and surpass
every one of Your promises.

Pray this Lazaroo…with confidence:

“The house of Judah, however, followed David.”
(2 Samuel 2:10)

You promised David would be king over all Israel, Jesus.

For more than seven years, however, only Judah followed him.
The other tribes followed the son of Saul.

David waited a long time for Your promise to be fulfilled.

I can identify.
I’m still waiting on some of Your promises.

But the day came when Your promise to David came true

as will every promise You’ve made to me.
