Take heed, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They charge like warriors…”
(Joel 2:7)

Oh, Jesus.

Your warning about this army of locusts
about to descend upon Your people
is terrifying.

You don’t do things like this without fair warning.

You warn us over and over and over again.

In fact, Your kindness is sadly mistaken for unwillingness to act.

Your warnings come so far in advance
that we tragically suppose they will never arrive.

But if we fail to reverse course they will.

Dear God.
They will.

Pray this Lazaroo in holy fear:

“In the fire of his jealousy…”
(Zephaniah 1:18)

I know You’re loving, Jesus.

Your kindness, mercy, forgiveness are legendary.

But that doesn’t mean You’re weak.

You hate sin.
You especially hate premeditated, willful sin.

Most of all, You hate what it signifies

when those You’ve loved, cared for, forgiven countless times

forsake You and run after Satan.

It ignites a fire of jealousy in You that will consume all

who cynically believe they can take advantage of Your goodness.

Pray this Lazaroo in Spirit-renewed determination:

“When the LORD heard what you said, he was angry…”
(Deuteronomy 1:34)

May my words never do that to You, Jesus!

Of course, to keep that from happening
I need to guard my thoughts, as well.

It might help, too, if I make sure I’m following You every step of the way

‘cause when my 1on1 relationship with You slips
so does my tongue.

As you monitor my thoughts, words and actions

may You beam with pride and joy!
