Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“’The Lord bless him!’ Naomi said to her daughter-in-law. ‘He has not stopped showing his kindness to the living and the dead.’”
(Ruth 2:20)

No, You haven’t, Jesus –

nor will You ever!

Because the so-called righteous “dead”
are alive in heaven with You!

What a thrill it will be for me one day in heaven

when I am by Your side
looking down in grateful amazement
on the unending stream of blessings
You are showering on those I love.

Pray this Lazaroo, overwhelmed with gratitude:

“…the word of the Lord is against you, Canaan, land of the Philistines. He says, ‘I will destroy you, and none will be left.’”
(Zephaniah 2:5)

It’s one thing to be defeated in battle, Jesus

to be shamed and disgraced
taken captive, reduced to slavery.

But this time it was worse.

The Philistines so infuriated You with their blatant idolatry
that You threatened to annihilate them

leaving no survivors.

That’s what my sins deserve.

But instead of wrath –

through the cross –

You’ve offered me mercy!

Pray this Lazaroo in sobered reflection:

“In fierce anger he has cut off every horn of Israel. He has withdrawn his right hand at the approach of the enemy. He has burned in Jacob like a flaming fire that consumes everything around it.”
(Lamentations 2:3)

Oh, Jesus.

Anyone who repeatedly, unrepentantly abuses your longsuffering loveĀ can expect to experience Your fierce, all-consuming wrath!

May that never, ever be me!

Cause Your precious, amazing love to motivate me
to higher and higher levels of grateful obedience!

Pray this Lazaroo with grateful specificity:

“The word of the LORD came to Haggai a second time on the twenty-fourth day of the month.”
(Haggai 2:20)

That’s nailing it down pretty tight, Jesus

right to the day.

You appreciate it when I thank You generically

“…for all You’ve done.”

But that’s a prayer that, if I’m not careful

…can be uttered almost without thinking.

How much better when I remember exactly what You did for me

how You did it

and when You did it!

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“The LORD will…again choose…”
(Zechariah 2:12)

When I’ve done what I shouldn’t have, Jesus

sinning against You

when my sins have forced You to discipline me

bringing me pain, sorrow, suffering, excruciating regret

it can feel like You and I will never be close again
that I’ve forever lost the precious intimacy we had –

until, in repentance, I look up in happy, near disbelief

to realize You choose once again

to experience deep, daily, moment-by-moment

1on1 relationship with me.

Pray this Lazaroo in passionate gratitude:

“Until now…”
(Haggai 2:19)

The “until now” of the past tries to hold us captive, Jesus

But You came to change that.

In You –

what I used to be, used to do, the way I used to think –

are irrelevant.

My future is as bright as Your promises –

which are dazzlingly brilliant!

I’m no longer required to drive forward while looking in my rearview mirror.

In You, I can look ahead

and see unfolding before my eyes

new possibilities!

Pray this Lazaroo in aware humility:

“The arrogance of man will be brought low and human pride humbled…”
(Isaiah 2:17)

Why do we get like that, Jesus?

It’s because of the generosity of Your blessings, isn’t it?

You load us up with good things

but instead of being humbly grateful to You
we act like we’ve done it ourselves.

Attractive people act like they self-designed their genes.
Talented people act like they gave themselves their abilities.

No wonder You have to take us down a notch!

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“If we endure, we will also reign with him.”
(2 Timothy 2:12)

I’m so thankful for that promise, Jesus!

You didn’t say I’d reign with You if I won.
You didn’t say I’d reign with You if I overcame.
You didn’t say I’d reign with You if I knocked it out of the park.

You said all I’d have to do to reign with You

is endure.

Why am I grateful?

Because some days
that’s all I can do.

Pray this Lazaroo with keen anticipation:

“But many of the older priests and Levites and family heads, who had seen the former temple, wept aloud…
(Ezra 3:12)

Everybody else was shouting with excitement and praise, Jesus.

Why not the older ones, too?

Because it reminded them of what they had lost.

Theirs were tears of remembrance –

the good times they had experienced
having no temple all this time.

I too have wept over what I’ve lost…

but believe I’ll weep again – in grateful joy.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“We who are Jews by birth…”
(Galatians 2:15)

Paul had that honored standing, Jesus.

But those who don’t have hope!

You’ve offered all who are not Jews by birth

the opportunity to become Jews

by rebirth.

In fact, every Jew by birth who desires to make heaven his home

has to become one by rebirth!

That’s hard for a natural-born Jew to accept, Jesus –

until she gratefully acknowledges You as her promised Messiah
in prophetic fulfillment of her Jewish heritage.
