Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“‘Take these articles and go and deposit them in the temple in Jerusalem. And rebuild the house of God on its site.’ So this Sheshbazzar came and laid the foundations of the house of God in Jerusalem. From that day to the present it has been under construction but is not yet finished.”
(Ezra 5:15-16)

How many of the assignments You’ve given me

remain unfinished, Jesus?

That’s unacceptable.

In Your strength, favor and blessing –

before You call me Home –

it is my desire to complete every one!

Check the mirror, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But to Jonah this seemed very wrong, and he became angry. He prayed to the Lord, ‘Isn’t this what I said, Lord, when I was still at home?’”
(Jonah 4:1-2)

First, Jonah runs from You, Jesus.

After he spends three days in the belly of a fish

he repents.

But when his obedience doesn’t go the way he likes

he justifies why he ran from You to begin with.

It’s a good thing I don’t ever do anything like that, Father.

Right…?

Right…?

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“Why do you now cry aloud—have you no king? Has your ruler perished, that pain seizes you like that of a woman in labor? Writhe in agony, Daughter Zion…you must leave the city to camp in the open field. You will go to Babylon; there you will be rescued. There the Lord will redeem you out of the hand of your enemies.”
(Micah 4:9-10)

When my sins have cost me my home, Jesus

is all lost?

No.

Even in a strange and foreign land

You can rescue me!

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rocks and make your home on the heights, you who say to yourself, ‘Who can bring me down to the ground?’”
(Obadiah 1:3)

When I ask myself a question, Jesus

I’m asking the wrong person.

I would do well to ask the wise –

or even better, to ask You –

through openhearted, open-minded study of Your Word

and in fervent, ready-to-receive Your answer prayer!

Pray this Lazaroo with determination:

“If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house…”
(2 John 1:10)

The people who enter my home influence me, Jesus

for good or bad.

They can encourage me in the right direction

or hinder me from following You with my whole heart.

The people I permit to enter my home

also send a message to everyone on the outside.

Rightly or wrongly, my acceptance of them
causes people to conclude I agree with them.

Pray this Lazaroo with mounting anticipation:

“Now the first to resettle on their own property in their own towns were some Israelites, priests, Levites and temple servants.”
(1 Chronicles 9:2)

There’s nothing like coming home, Jesus.

Well…that’s true if home is a good place.

Many people have had bad experiences growing up.

So for them, returning home would be painful.

But here’s the beautiful thing I’ve got to keep in mind:

This world is not my home!

My home is with You, in heaven.

Oh, what a joy it will be
to go home.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted adoration:

“…to the church that meets in your home…”
(Philemon 1:2)

That’s how it started, isn’t it, Jesus?

In addition to gathering in the temple courts

small groups of Your people
met together in one another’s homes.

There they ate together
studied Your Word together
prayed together.

Certainly, we have awesome electronic tools at our disposal

to facilitate those two ways of meeting as Your Church.

But can we possibly improve on that simple plan today?

No.
We can’t.

Pray this Lazaroo with every fiber of your being:

“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:16-17)

Oh, do I need Your strength, Jesus!

Strength to obey You no matter what.
S
trength to bear up under the hard times.
Strength to stay true to You during the good times.
Strength to overcome Satan’s temptations.
Strength to stay faithful to You…

right up to the moment You call me home.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted dedication:

“One day Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi said to her, ‘My daughter, I must find a home for you, where you will be well provided for.’”
(Ruth 3:1)

Naomi was a heartbroken widow, Jesus.

No one would have blamed her
for wanting Ruth to stay and take care of her.

But Naomi entrusted herself to You

and put Ruth’s needs ahead of her own.

O God!

Rise up within me so strongly
that I have that same caring heart toward others!

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“…the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the path of peace.”
(Luke 1:78-79)

We don’t deserve it, Jesus!

But in Your tender mercy

cause your rising sun to shine down on us
as we desperately grope about in this land of darkness
battling the stench of death

…and guide us all the way Home.
