Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“She said, ‘Please let me glean and gather among the sheaves behind the harvesters.’”
(Ruth 2:7)

Sometimes that’s the way it goes, Jesus.

You put me in a place that requires
being needy, humbled, bringing up the rear.

I can fight it, if I wish

or I can trust You.

You know what’s best for me.

I don’t.

Besides, leading the pack isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

They’re the first to get shot at.

Back here is fine.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep reverence:

“…appointing Levites twenty years of age and older to supervise the building…”
(Ezra 3:8)

I can only imagine how this went over with an experienced, 40 year-old carpenter, Jesus –

having someone half his age
who had never hammered a nail

“supervise” him.

But a gifted supervisor can alleviate those concerns by being

kind
respectful
humble
encouraging
appreciative

regardless of age or lack of experience.

May I be willing to treat others
the way I want them to treat me.

Pray this Lazaroo with undiluted sincerity:

“He assigned 70,000 of them to be carriers…”
(2 Chronicles 2:18)

These were the aliens living among the Jews, Jesus.

Solomon gave them the dirt jobs
the tasks no one else wanted.

If a Jew needed something heavy carried from here to there

all he had to do was call a carrier.

I’m no alien in Your Church, Father.

But if You want me to carry something heavy for You

short distance or long

I’d be honored to do so.

Pray this Lazaroo with pedal-to-the-metal commitment:

“…welcome him…”
(Philemon 1:17)

Some people are easy to welcome, Jesus.

They’re outgoing, gracious, humble, fun.

Other people…not so much.

They’re surly, selfish, egotistic.
Some are downright mean, devious, evil.

Do You want me to welcome everybody?

No, You don’t.

You tell me to have nothing to do with some of them

not even eat with them.

But that doesn’t mean they can’t change.

With You, all things are possible.

My prayer?

In heaven

that You will welcome me.

Pray this Lazaroo in respectful humility:

“For you know…”
(1 Thessalonians 2:11)

I always get a little nervous when I hear someone say that, Jesus.

They may be assuming I know more than I do.

There was a time when I thought I knew more than I did

only to discover the hard way how woefully ignorant I was.

Time has passed. Much has happened. I must be wiser now than I was then…

…if only to realize and admit how much I don’t know.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“I will say to those called ‘Not my people,’ ‘You are my people’”
(Hosea 2:23)

I know how it feels to be judged, Jesus.

I don’t like it –
and not just when they judge me harshly

Sometimes people think more highly of me than they ought to.

Makes me feel uncomfortable.
When I try to correct them, they think I’m being modest

which makes them think even more highly of me.

Sigh.

Some days I just can’t win! 😉

Pray this Lazaroo…in the fear of God:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…he sets up kings and deposes them.”
(Daniel 2:20-21)

Thanks for that reminder, Jesus.

No matter how You’ve honored and blessed me
no matter how many gifts You’ve given me
no matter how many people respect me
no matter how You’ve lifted me up

You can take me out.

The amazing favor You’ve shown me is no reason to get cocky.

It’s motivation to get humble
and stay that way.

Walk softly, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.”
(2 Thessalonians 2:7)

This is one of those passages, Jesus…

on which students of Your Word disagree.

You could have spelled it out so there’d be no guessing, no controversy

but You chose not to.

Since You’ve remained purposely mysterious about it

perhaps we should hold our opinions
with humility.
