Here I am mightily struggling to humble myself, Jesus

while for me, You humbled Yourself

That’s what kind of person seeks You, isn’t it, Jesus?

The humble.

Proud people don’t look to You for strength, protection, success.

They think they’ve got everything they need
right there in themselves.

One reason they believe that is because of the strength, protection and success they’ve already enjoyed.

They never stop to ask: “Where did all these blessings come from?”

May I never fail to seek You.

Historians might wonder why Mary was chosen to be Your mother, Jesus

but Mary didn’t.

She immediately knew: It was her humble state.

Did that mean she was poor?
In part, yes.

But it was so much more.

She didn’t dip in and out of humility as she followed You.
That was her state – who she was all the time.

And so it must be mine.

I always get a little nervous when I hear someone say that, Jesus.

They may be assuming I know more than I do.

There was a time when I thought I knew more than I did

only to discover the hard way how woefully ignorant I was.

Time has passed. Much has happened. I must be wiser now than I was then…

…if only to realize and admit how much I don’t know.
