Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears?”
(Malachi 3:2)

In Your strength, Jesus

It is the passionate desire and firm intention
of my mind, will and heart

to stand for You
come what may.

Of course, that raises a humbling, terrifying question:

If I’m not obeying You in everything now
who am I to believe I will stand for You then?

Give careful thought to your ways, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Now this is what the Lord Almighty says: ‘Give careful thought to your ways.’”
(Haggai 1:5)

Well, if You say it, Jesus

I’d better do it.

That’s true of everything You say.

In fact, that’s the key to giving careful thought to my ways.

What have You told me to do that I’m not doing?
What have You told me to stop that I’m still doing?

Very humbling…

…this giving careful thought to my ways.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let people or animals, herds or flocks, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. But let people and animals be covered with sackcloth.”
(Jonah 3:7-8)

First of all, that’s downright impressive, Jesus.

I’ve never heard of covering animals with sackcloth.
None of the people’s sins was the animals’ fault!

Clearly, this king was over-the-top humbling himself before You.

No wonder You relented!

That’s an example I need to keep in mind.

Pray this Lazaroo in zealous love:

“But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.”
(2 Corinthians 3:14-16)

This is extremely humbling, Jesus.

You can dull my mind.
Only You can sharpen it again.

I’m turning to You with all my heart!

Take the veil away!

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God…being found in appearance as a man…humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!
(Philippians 2:5-6, 8)

Here I am mightily struggling to humble myself, Jesus

when only a few things don’t go my way

while for me, You humbled Yourself
all the way to death.

If called upon, help me humble myself as You did

because You’re the Giver of Eternal Life!

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“When Jonah’s warning reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth…”
(Jonah 3:6)

Kings wore the finest of clothing, Jesus

made from the most expensive fabrics
tailored to fit them perfectly

designed to convey the idea that they were special –
in a different class from those wearing common attire.

But when a king donned plain, ugly sackcloth

he was totally humbling himself

which is what I do before You every day.

Pray this Lazaroo in devoted passion:

“Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire…”
(Habakkuk 3:13)

What a humbling thing to hear, Jesus!

That I can work my fingers to the bone every day of my life
only to have You snap Your fingers

and burn it all up?

That’s what becomes of everything I do for the wrong motives.

But O God!

Everything I do to please You

becomes eternal treasure

that will never fade, spoil, nor pass away!

Pray this Lazaroo in full awareness of your True Source:

“The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled…”
(Isaiah 2:11)

Arrogance goes beyond pride, doesn’t it, Jesus?

A person may be Your humble follower
and still be gratefully proud –

knowing it’s You who do it all through them.

But arrogant people pound their chests and point to themselves.

They don’t believe they need Your help or anyone else’s.
They’re their own god.

But one day – when they stand before the true God –

they will be utterly humbled.

Too late.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They will occupy the fields…”
(Obadiah 1:19)

That’s quite a promise, Jesus

or, depending on my perspective

quite a curse.

It’s stunning…humbling…to learn that You’ve given me someone else’s possessions

also stunning…humbling…to think You might give mine to someone else.

That goes for opportunities too, doesn’t it?

When You call me to do something
how many others first turned You down?

If I fail to obey Your calling
who will You raise up instead, to take my place?
