Pray this Lazaroo in heart-pounding love:

“But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish. Arise, Lord, do not let mortals triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. Strike them with terror, Lord; let the nations know they are only mortal.”
(Psalm 9:18-20)

All too often, Jesus

the powerful trample on the needy.

But You see what they’re doing.

Everyone You’ve created is precious to You –
especially the poor, the hurting, the downtrodden.

It is You who are their Defender

who will take up their case.

Awake! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“In that day seven women will take hold of one man and say, ‘We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace!’”
(Isaiah 4:1)

Sin doesn’t end in triumph, Jesus

but in humiliation.

Satan packs all his pleasures into the first moments of my disobedience

then leaves me hurting, disgraced, bankrupt.

How many times do I have to see this outcome of temptation

before I reject it?

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes.”
(Esther 4:3)

Horrible news does that to us, Jesus!

For the Jews, this news was about as bad as it gets.

The king had issued a decree
that made it legal to destroy their entire nation.

But as You do again and again for Your hurting people

You were about to turn that bad news upside down!

Take warning, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…you will be utterly despised.”
(Obadiah 1:2)

Whew! That’s a tough one, Jesus!

But that was the punishment You meted out against Edom
the people descended from Jacob’s older brother.

Why?

Because of the calloused cruelty they exhibited
toward Your hurting, chosen people.

No matter how low one of Your flawed believers sinks

may I never pile on while You’re disciplining them

and risk becoming one of the “utterly despised.”

It’s not my place to add to their misery

lest some of their misery becomes mine.

Pray this Lazaroo in renewed devotion:

“…Jesus went into the synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Some of them were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see if he would heal him on the Sabbath. Jesus said to the man with the shriveled hand, ‘Stand up in front of everyone.’”
(Mark 3:1-3)

You didn’t hide the miracle You were about to perform, Jesus!

You stood against them boldly
in behalf of the hurting.

O God!

Rise up within me
as I do the same.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope…”
(2 Thessalonians 2:16)

What a reminder, Jesus!

There’s more than one kind of hope.

There’s hope

bad hope

and good hope.

Some things I hope for are just “hope.”

They’re fine…but they don’t really make anything better.

Other things I hope for are “bad hope.”

If I get them, they’ll end up hurting me.

But You Are the Giver of Good Hope!

which is –

all good!

Cry out to God! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…they are…ruthless.”
(Romans 1:31)

How can anyone stand against the ruthless, Jesus?

If they’re more powerful, they can and will
smash us into the ground.

They don’t seem to have the ability to empathize

to feel another person’s pain.

They’re possessed by a desire to pillage, harm and destroy.

“Possessed” is the right word, isn’t it?
Their ruthlessness comes straight from the pits of hell.

End their reign, LORD God Almighty!

Rescue Your humble, hurting people from their clutches.

Pray this Lazaroo in tearful confidence:

“People have heard my groaning, but there is no one to comfort me.”
(Lamentations 1:21)

That’s the hardest, Jesus.

When I keep my suffering to myself
it’s not a surprise that no one comforts me.

But when my pain increases to the point that I’m forced to cry out
and still no one shows up with love and compassion

my agony is multiplied by the stunning realization
that I’m abandoned
forsaken
alone.

Except I’m not!
Hallelujah!!

I have You.

Pray this Lazaroo with outrageous adoration:

“…the upright will live in the land…”
(Proverbs 2:21)

The “upright” You’re talking about

is a little bit more than merely standing erect, isn’t it, Jesus?

In fact, a person hurting and sick while flat on their back

can remain upright before You.

The posture You most value is uprightness of heart, spirit, mind.

When my inside is right
the outside of me follows.

So when my behavior’s not right

the place I need to correct
is inside.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“If anyone has caused grief…”
(2 Corinthians 2:5)

People don’t usually say something like this, Jesus

unless grief has been caused.

There’s seldom any “if” to it.

But for some, the word, “since” can be a little too strong.

Hence, the word, “if.”

Paul is trying to bring healing in the place of hurt

so with Your help, He’s choosing those words.

O God!

Give me Your words of healing
to share with those around me
who are hurting.
