How can I say I believe what You say

if I don’t do what You say?

is self-deluded disobedience.

You were reminding Your people to give careful thought

to the day when the foundation of Your temple was laid, Jesus.

But there are a number of days in my life

that deserve careful thought.

Every day I experienced joy, fulfillment, success –

those were gifts from You.

Every day I experienced disappointment, heartache, failure –

those too were gifts from You.

I didn’t thank You then.

But looking back…

I thank You now.

but the more detailed I become
the more their minds wander.

What a perfect picture of futility You’ve given me, Jesus.

Show me everywhere in my life I’m doing this.

Help me stop!

Did I say, “my” life?

God help me.

It’s not mine.
It’s Yours.

Forgetting that is what sets me off
on another wind-chasing waste of time.

Chasing after the wind is NOT going after something too big.

In Your power, there’s no such thing.
