Never give up! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“All who pass your way clap their hands at you; they scoff and shake their heads at Daughter Jerusalem: ‘Is this the city that was called the perfection of beauty, the joy of the whole earth?’”
(Lamentations 2:15)

People love to attack a fallen hero, Jesus.

Why is that?

Were they jealous of the blessings You bestowed on them?
Are they delighted, now that Your discipline
has brought them down to their level?

What a shock it will be

when You restore the blessings
of Your repentant loved ones!

Pray this Lazaroo with consistent faith:

“Then the Lord was jealous for his land and took pity on his people. The Lord replied to them: ‘I am sending you grain, new wine and olive oil, enough to satisfy you fully; never again will I make you an object of scorn to the nations.’”
(Joel 2:18-19)

That’s Your heart, Jesus!

When we repent, You bless us!

But when we return to our wicked ways – as Your people did –

You reluctantly withdraw Your blessings

knowing only then will we return to You.

Open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Then the Lord was jealous for his land…”
(Joel 2:18)

“Then,” Jesus?

When?

What turns Your heart toward us, though we have sinned

though we deserve nothing but wrath?

What makes You jealous for this land we have so defiled by our disobedience?

It’s when we cry out to You in repentance, isn’t it –

begging for Your mercy –
which by very definition we don’t deserve.

It’s when we call on You to honor Your great Name we have so besmirched.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“Now since we are under obligation to the palace and it is not proper for us to see the king dishonored, we are sending this message to inform the king…”
(Ezra 4:14)

King Artaxerxes had to smell the stench from this heaping pile of garbage from a mile away, Jesus!

These two wicked, jealous yahoos were tattling
because Your chosen servant
was rattling their cages
by obeying You.

Great God!

Help me be a cage-rattler
instead of a garbage-pusher.

Pray this Lazaroo with thanksgiving:

“They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.”
(Galatians 2:9)

How many times have I looked at the assignment You’ve given someone, Jesus

and thought, “I wish You had sent me there!”?

But how often have I looked at where You’ve sent someone else

and thought, “I’m so very glad that’s not me!”?

May I never second-guess Your calling, LORD!

You alone

know what You’ve put me on this earth to do.

Pray this Lazaroo in simple trust:

“God…was also at work in my ministry…”
(Galatians 2:8)

It’s so easy to look at what You’re doing through someone else, Jesus…

and not be able to see what You’re doing through me.

Forgive me!

It’s a miracle in and of itself
that You’re willing to work with me at all.

Wouldn’t it be wild to find out that while I’m enviously staring at them

they’re shaking their heads in wonder
at the amazing things You’re accomplishing through me?

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest gratitude:

“May it be to me as you have said.”
(Luke 1:38)

Do any words please you more, Jesus?

I might say I love You…
then complain about the lot in life You’ve chosen for me.

It’s so easy to be jealous when I see the amazing things You’re doing for someone else

not realizing that while I’m feeling sorry for myself

someone is staring hard at me from a distance

jealous because of how good You’re being to me.
