Pray this Lazaroo with eyes-wide-open love:

“I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of the Lord’s wrath. He has driven me away and made me walk in darkness rather than light; indeed, he has turned his hand against me again and again, all day long.”
(Lamentations 3:1-3)

Jeremiah didn’t sugarcoat it, Jesus.

He knew You had the power to stop the attacks against him.

You’re my Protector, too.

When bad things happen to me
it’s Your choice to cause or allow them…

because You know what’s best.

Cry out to God for help as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…my heart is faint.”
(Lamentations 1:22)

That was true of Jeremiah then, Jesus

and sometimes it’s true of me –
but not always for the same reason!

It could be because I’m missing my 1on1 time with You

because I’ve deliberately sinned against You
because I’m hurting for someone I love
because I’m distressed about my country
because I’m under Satan’s attack
because of terrible hurt or loss in my own life.

O God, You! You alone!

can restore me.

Pray this Lazaroo in abject humility:

“…deal with them as you have dealt with me because of all my sins.”
(Lamentations 1:22)

There are two ways to pray that prayer, Jesus.

Jeremiah was asking You to punish his enemies for their sins
as brutally as You had punished him for his.

But there’s another way to pray it for those of us who aren’t as worthy as Jeremiah:

Deal with my enemies’ sins as lovingly and forgivingly
as You have dealt with mine.

So be it.

Ask God for grace, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…so they may become like me.”
(Lamentations 1:21)

Jeremiah wasn’t asking You to make his enemies wealthy, Jesus.

He wasn’t asking You to make them strong.
He wasn’t asking You to make them happy.

Jeremiah was pleading with You to make his enemies miserable!

…because that’s what He was.

I sure understand why he felt that way.

It’s incredibly hard to watch my enemies dance over my misfortune.

But You’ve given me a new command:

Love my enemies.

Pray this Lazaroo in humbled zeal:

“I have been most rebellious.”
(Lamentations 1:20)

That’s quite a confession, Jesus…

especially because of who’s making it.

This is no rapist, murderer, pillager, criminal.

The great prophet Jeremiah is speaking!

He’s the one who faithfully obeyed You throughout his life –

and suffered greatly for it.

He’s the one You appointed over nations and kingdoms –

to tear down, destroy, build and plant.

If he could be this humble and self-aware of his sins

who am I to be less?

Pray this Lazaroo in fearless confidence:

“…they have growled at him.”
(Jeremiah 2:15)

I’ve been growled at too, Jesus.

But not by lions.

Of course, Jeremiah wasn’t talking about lions either!

He was referring to the enemies of Your people.

It’s no fun to get growled at.

The next step is to get bitten
then devoured.

So when these lions at my heels start in with their threatening sounds

I’ll quickly turn to the Lion of Judah.

You.

Now and forever
King of the Jungle.
