Pray this Lazaroo in head-shaking amazement:

Why have I found such favor in your eyes…?”
(Ruth 2:10)

How refreshing is that, Jesus?

In this day of people pounding their chests, swaggering –

I’m so used to hearing:

“It’s about time!”
“I’m the best there is!”
“Check me out!”

But here’s Ruth, so unassuming

that when someone does something nice for her
she’s stunned, not comprehending –

the exact opposite of an attitude of entitlement.

No wonder You selected her to become

one of Your many-times-removed great grandmothers.

Pray this Lazaroo in soul-deep gratitude:

“…She is the Moabite who came back from Moab with Naomi.”
(Ruth 2:6)

That was enough to permanently mark Ruth an outcast, Jesus.

The Jews knew the Moabites were descended from Moab
the son of Lot

born of an incestuous relationship
with his oldest daughter.

They were pagans, worshiping false gods
leading Israel away from You into sexual sin.

Yet You transformed her into one of Your ancestors – the ultimate insider!

just as You’ve transformed me
into Your child.
