Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“The battle that day was very fierce…”
(2 Samuel 2:17)

I’ve been in some fierce battles myself, Jesus –

though not, I’m sure, of the same kind
as the armies of Joab and Abner.

Still, my battles were a big deal to me.

But even more importantly
I know they were a big deal to You, as well

because You love me.

I can’t tell You how much that means to me, LORD!

Thank You for Your amazing heart
for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with Holy Spirit-engendered courage:

“Do not be afraid of them…”
(Ezekiel 3:9)

You don’t want me to be afraid, do You, Jesus?

In part, I know that’s because You love me.
When I suffer, You suffer.

But it’s more than that.

You don’t want me to be afraid
because I have You!

With You on my side –

or rather, with me on yours –

there is absolutely no reason on Your green earth

for me to be caught trembling in my boots.

Not ever.

Pray this Lazaroo in humble adulation:

“…you will be saved – and that by God.”
(Philippians 1:28)

You’re the only one who saves, Jesus!

Not just from hell
but from every other bad situation.

How many times have I thought someone or something else did it

when You were the One behind it?

Forgive me.
I should know better.

Yes, you work through people, circumstances – even angels!

But it’s still You

loving me, protecting me

Even when I’m too blind to give thanks where it’s due.

Pray this Lazaroo with deep gratitude:

“…whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye…”
(Zechariah 2:8)

I know this means I’m special to You, Jesus…

but I’m a little shaky on being the “apple of Your eye.”

It means I’m the very center of Your eye, doesn’t it?

It’s the dark part, the pupil –
the part that determines how much light gets in.

If no light enters someone’s eye

they’re blind, they can’t see.

In other words…

I’m really, really special to You!

Pray this Lazaroo with lavish love:

“But why am I so favored…?”
(Luke 1:43)

There’s a simple, life-changing answer to Elizabeth’s question, Jesus:

“Because that’s who You are!”

It’s not only Elizabeth who’s favored.

I’m favored, too!
as is everyone who calls on Your Name.

If I have eyes to see it, Your favor is everywhere I look:

in the obvious blessings that just “happen” to come my way
in the blessings You secret within trials, heartaches and pain.

O God!

Why am I so favored?

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“You have forsaken your first love.”
(Revelation 2:4)

You’re not referring to a boyfriend/girlfriend, are You, Jesus?

This isn’t about a husband or wife
not about a hobby, sport, possession or profession.

This is about You.

It goes all the way back to the moment I realized You loved me –

forever proved by Your death for me on the cross
when I responded with passionate, white-hot love for You.

If my love has cooled –

unimaginably…inexcusably…

ignite it again!

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“…you let us down…”
(Joshua 2:18)

I’ve been let down before, Jesus.

Doesn’t feel good.

Unless, as in this case…

You’ve done it to save my life.

Rahab let these two men down from her window

so they could escape certain death.

You delight in doing the unexpected

for my good
because I love You
because You first loved me.

Please remind me that every time you allow someone to let me down

in reality
You’re lifting me up.

Open your heart to the love of God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.”
(1 John 2:9)

Apparently…

hating my brother is not something You approve, Jesus

seeing as how You not only died for me

but also my brother.

Last time I checked

fathers don’t take too kindly
to those who hate their children.

What do I do with these negative emotions?

Please!

Teach me to love them
with the love You have for me.

Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“I will bring distress on the people…”
(Zephaniah 1:17)

May I never be among the people on whom You bring distress, Jesus!

Something tells me Yours would be worse
than the distress I’ve sometimes brought on myself.

Seeing what You’ve done to others who’ve dared to defy You

has given me a healthy fear of deliberately crossing You.

I have absolutely no doubt that You love me.
Passionately.

But I’m also aware
that You discipline those You love.
