Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait until the Lord comes.”
(1 Corinthians 4:3-5)

You’re my judge, Jesus.

But even better
You’re my compassionate, loving, merciful Savior!

Others see my results.

You see my heart –
how passionately I long to please You!

Pray this Lazaroo in heart-pounding love:

“But God will never forget the needy; the hope of the afflicted will never perish. Arise, Lord, do not let mortals triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. Strike them with terror, Lord; let the nations know they are only mortal.”
(Psalm 9:18-20)

All too often, Jesus

the powerful trample on the needy.

But You see what they’re doing.

Everyone You’ve created is precious to You –
especially the poor, the hurting, the downtrodden.

It is You who are their Defender

who will take up their case.

Pray this Lazaroo in sober reflection:

“Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.”
(James 3:1)

There’s a simple reason for this, isn’t there, Jesus?

Those to whom You give the holy honor of teaching Your Word

owe You and those they teach

the privilege of seeing someone
who practices what they teach.

True, no teacher will ever do everything perfectly

but that had blessed well be their daily goal.

Pray this Lazaroo with all-out rejoicing!

“Speak and act as those who are going to be judged by the law that gives freedom…”
(James 2:12)

Most people think Your law handcuffs people

and places them in bondage, Jesus.

But no!

Your law – the law of love You established on the cross –

grants those who place their faith in You alone

true, lasting freedom!

It’s sin that lands me behind bars

imprisons and entangles me in its evil tentacles

and takes away all my good options.

Pray this Lazaroo in chastened submission:

“…he who said, ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ also said, ‘You shall not murder.’”
(James 2:11)

This isn’t about compiling a list of all Your prohibitions, is it, Jesus?

You’re making it clear to me
that I have no room to judge someone’s sin as worse than mine.

You hate all sin!

Big and little.

You want me to focus on eradicating my so-called “little” sin

instead of attempting to excuse it
by pointing out someone else’s “big” sin.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“…whenever any of the people offered a sacrifice, the priest’s servant would come with a three-pronged fork in his hand while the meat was being boiled and would plunge the fork into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot. Whatever the fork brought up the priest would take for himself.”
(1 Samuel 2:12-14)

What a detestable abuse of power, Jesus!

You judged and punished Samuel’s sons

and you will surely judge and punish those
who abuse their power today!

Plead with God, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“…the LORD…was with the judge…”
(Judges 2:18)

Back in the day, Jesus…

Your judges were more than deciders of disputes.
They were leaders and warriors.

Today, our judges mostly sit behind big, imposing desks

listen to each side make its case and make rulings.

Even so…

oh, how we need You to be with our judges!

Some of them take the bench with hidden evil intent.

Block them! Remove them!

Even better, Great God, Judge of All:

Change them.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“…have you not…become judges with evil thoughts?”
(James 2:4)

I was about to say, “Not me, Jesus!”

But denial does me no good.
Actually, it does me a lot of harm.

So let me ask the One who knows me better than I know myself:

Am I judging unfairly?

If so, what could I be thinking?

Don’t I hate it
when others who have no idea what I’m going through
judge me?

How dare I do that to them!
