Pray this Lazaroo in dawning awareness:

“Now the king was attracted to Esther more than to any of the other women…”
(Esther 2:17)

No doubt Esther was beautiful, Jesus.

Certainly, she was also granted favored status in the harem.

But wasn’t all of this from You – her beauty, her special treatment…

and especially the king’s strong reaction to her?

Are all such attractions Your doing?

You have a plan.
It’s a plan for the ages.
Esther was part of that plan

as am I.

Pray this Lazaroo in deepest respect:

“When Bathsheba went to King Solomon…the king stood up to meet her…”
(1 Kings 2:19)

I love this, Jesus –

the respect Solomon showed his mother.

Typically, kings didn’t stand for anyone except another king.

But You’ve instructed us to honor our mothers and fathers
that our days may be long on this earth.

Solomon knew Your Word.
He was filled with Your wisdom.

So when his mother entered the room
he paid her the honor due her:

He stood.

Pray this Lazaroo in complete submission:

“Ish-Bosheth son of Saul…reigned two years.”
(2 Samuel 2:10)

Wasn’t much of a reign, was it, Jesus?

You had given the kingdom to David, not him.

As is always the case when a pretender ascends to the throne

his days were numbered.

You’re the one who raises one person to power and sets aside another.

No one can thwart Your sovereign will!

How long will I reign over my little kingdom, LORD?

Not one day longer than You say.

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“I urge, then, first of all, that…prayers…be made for…kings…”
(1 Timothy 2:1-2)

At first blush, this can seem a bit…

irritating, Jesus.

Why would You command even the poorest subjects to pray for their king?

Here they are, powerless, struggling just to make ends meet

while kings can do pretty much whatever they want
and live in jaw-dropping luxury.

Maybe that’s why –

so kings will exercise their power for the good of their people
and become willing to share the wealth.

Pray this Lazaroo with locked-in faith:

“Abner…made him king…”
(2 Samuel 2:8-9)

What happens when one man kings another, Jesus?

Not much.
Not for long.
Not for good.

You…are the kingmaker.

What You say, goes.
Whom You anoint, reigns.

Everyone else is a pretender, a wannabee.

Those who believe they can make it happen
are asking to be taught a lesson

by You.

Whoever attempts to promote someone without first checking for the unmistakable signs of Your approval

is setting himself up for a rude awakening.

Stand in awe of God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever…he sets up kings …”
(Daniel 2:20-21)

Just one more reminder, Jesus:

You…Are All-Powerful.

Kings are the most powerful people on earth.

They answer to no one.
They are mind-blowingly wealthy.
If they want something, they get it.
On a whim, they can spare or end someone’s life.
Not only are they above the law…they are the law.

But no one gets to be a king

unless You say so.
