Pray this Lazaroo with utter abandon:

“Salvation comes from the LORD.”
(Jonah 2:9)

Okay, Jesus…that’s true!

But not exactly a news flash.
That’s pretty much Your specialty.

But this statement comes from the mouth of the runaway prophet Jonah

from inside the belly of a great fish
who had swallowed him
and was trying to digest him.

So this was a statement of pure faith!

I love that You give those who run from You
the chance to repent, turn around
and run back.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“They will occupy the fields…”
(Obadiah 1:19)

That’s quite a promise, Jesus

or, depending on my perspective

quite a curse.

It’s stunning…humbling…to learn that You’ve given me someone else’s possessions

also stunning…humbling…to think You might give mine to someone else.

That goes for opportunities too, doesn’t it?

When You call me to do something
how many others first turned You down?

If I fail to obey Your calling
who will You raise up instead, to take my place?

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“Does a trap spring up from the ground if it has not caught anything?”
(Amos 3:5)

I think I can answer that one, Jesus:

No. Not usually.

If my own sin has trapped me, show me exactly where I’ve misstepped

so I can repent, stop doing it and escape!

But if You’re the one who’s put me in a position where I can’t move

in order to get my attention and teach me something?

You’ve succeeded.
I’m all ears.

Pray this Lazaroo in full devotion:

“They all march in line, not swerving from their course.”
(Joel 2:7)

If locusts can do that, Jesus…

why can’t I?

Oh, I do well for a while…

then all of a sudden, I swerve
leave the lane You’ve marked out for me.

Do I make it back on course?

Sure. Here I am, talking with You right now
and grateful to be doing it.

But I would really like to mature to the point

where I never stray.

Pray this Lazaroo with passion:

“…you must not…be intimate with any man…”
(Hosea 3:3)

Why would Hosea say such a thing to his wife, Jesus?

Actually, he had a pretty good reason:

She had cheated on him.

So why would he take her back?

Which raises another question:

Why have You taken me back?

I’ve sinned.
That’s cheating on You.

Hosea took back Gomer because You told him to

which is the same reason I’ve got to forgive those

who’ve sinned against me.

Allow your excitement to build, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“… the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.”
(Revelation 2:7)

Because Adam and Eve sinned, Jesus

You banished them from the Garden of Eden.

Our sin became so great that You caused a flood to destroy the earth

and with it, the Garden of Eden.

Oh, but that paradise and tree of life on earth

was only a copy of the one in heaven!

reserved for all
who put their faith, hope and trust
in You.

Pray this Lazaroo in awestruck wonder:

“…you have made known to us the dream of the king.”
(Daniel 2:23)

Smart king, Jesus…

scary moment.

The king knew his astrologers could invent a false interpretation of his dream

so to check their supernatural legitimacy
he required them to first tell him what he had dreamed.

When they couldn’t, he ordered all his wise men killed

even innocent Daniel.

But You revealed to Daniel the dream, along with the interpretation!

proving once again:

There’s none like You.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“See the Lord is coming…to convict all the ungodly…”
(Jude 1:14-15)

It would absolutely take You – and You alone – to pull that off, Jesus!

Ungodly people tend to be slippery and unrepentant.
Defiant. Closed-minded.
Hard to convict.

It’s a challenge to get enough evidence together

to convict really clever ones.

Of course, since You know and see everything…

they’ll have no defense.

But the bigger miracle

will be making them admit their ungodliness.

Although something tells me…

You’ll manage.

Pray this Lazaroo with Holy Spirit-engendered courage:

“Do not be afraid of them…”
(Ezekiel 3:9)

You don’t want me to be afraid, do You, Jesus?

In part, I know that’s because You love me.
When I suffer, You suffer.

But it’s more than that.

You don’t want me to be afraid
because I have You!

With You on my side –

or rather, with me on yours –

there is absolutely no reason on Your green earth

for me to be caught trembling in my boots.

Not ever.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…you are faithful…”
(3 John 1:5)

If only You could say that about me, Jesus!

Well…at least in some areas…You can.

But not in all.

There are seasons, days, moments
when I drop the ball.

That’s a euphemism I prefer

to confessing that I’ve inexcusably sinned.

I know no one is perfect.

I’m aware we all stumble in many ways.

But that doesn’t change the fact that in Your strength

I’ve got to give my all

because You deserve better.
