Pray this Lazaroo with caution:

“…he clung to the sins of Jeroboam…he did not turn away from them.”
(2 Kings 3:3)

There are a lot of bad examples out there, Jesus

some of which appear to work.

From a distance.
Short term.

However, I have Your word on it:

Sooner or later they will fail.
Every last one of them.

So why would I want to follow anyone’s bad example over the cliff?

Might be a good idea to turn away.
While I can.

Submit to God’s priorities as you pray this Lazaro:

“…you stand firm in one spirit…”
(Philippians 1:27)

Judging by the way Paul says this, Jesus

that’s the goal.

An entire church full of Christians standing firm in one spirit

is supposed to be the norm.

Is it?

In some churches at some times, yes.

But in all churches at all times?

I wish!
But no.

What destroys that beautiful state?

It’s each person demanding what they want, isn’t it?

Instead of selflessly submitting to one another
to give You what You want.

Pray this Lazaroo with pure devotion:

“He had a throne brought for the king’s mother…”
(1 Kings 2:19)

Every mother deserves a throne, Jesus!

Even the worst of mothers go through months of discomfort – if not outright agony –

to bring their child to the point of delivery
then risk their very lives to give birth.

The best mothers keep enduring years of discomfort – if not outright agony –

to make certain their children have the greatest opportunity possible
to become everything You’ve created them to be.

Pray this Lazaroo in heart-melting gratitude::

“…the incomparable riches of his grace expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.”
(Ephesians 2:7)

How do I know I’m the recipient of Your grace, Jesus?

Well…I know it by faith.

You said if I declare with my mouth that You are LORD and believe in my heart that God raised You from the dead

I’ll be saved.

But the irrefutable evidence right here and right now

is the incomparable, wholly undeserved kindness You are showing me!

Keep your eyes wide open as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Abner son of Ner, together with the men of Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, left Mahanaim and went to Gibeon.”
(2 Samuel 2:12)

The problem wasn’t with Abner’s battle plan, Jesus.

The thing that was about to get his army defeated and him killed

was that he was backing the wrong king.

That’s the only thing that can get the people I love defeated and me killed, Father

it we cave in to Satan’s temptation
and back the wrong king.

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“…those esteemed as pillars…gave me…the right hand of fellowship…”
(Galatians 2:9)

It feels good when someone important accepts me, Jesus.

Although I sometimes forget:
in You, everyone’s important

which means that if one of Your unesteemed children is nice to me

I should be just as happy.

I wonder…

will there come a day when I’m more about accepting others
than being accepted?

Might be a sign of maturity, huh?

Might be a sign
of becoming more like You.

Pray this Lazaroo in total trust:

“The LORD sends poverty and wealth…”
(1 Samuel 2:7)

A lot of people don’t want to hear that, Jesus

…at least, not the first part.

They like the idea of You as the Giver of wealth, prosperity, plenty

they don’t much care for any reference to You
as the Giver of poverty, hardship, want.

So why do both come from You?

Probably because – in Your wisdom –
everything comes from You

the things we like
and the things we don’t.

Pray this Lazaroo with Godly emotion:

“I wrote you…with many tears…”
(2 Corinthians 2:4)

I guess they’re far more spiritual than the Apostle Paul, Jesus –

those who insist if I have enough faith

I’ll always smile no matter what
I’ll never weep in anguish of heart.

Or maybe not…

because Paul knew there were some things worth weeping over:

lost opportunities
lost blessings
lost people.

Tears for the right reason have nothing to do with how much faith I have

but with how much love.

Pray this Lazaroo in soul-deep gratitude:

“…She is the Moabite who came back from Moab with Naomi.”
(Ruth 2:6)

That was enough to permanently mark Ruth an outcast, Jesus.

The Jews knew the Moabites were descended from Moab
the son of Lot

born of an incestuous relationship
with his oldest daughter.

They were pagans, worshiping false gods
leading Israel away from You into sexual sin.

Yet You transformed her into one of Your ancestors – the ultimate insider!

just as You’ve transformed me
into Your child.
