Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Now give careful thought to this…”
(Haggai 2:15)

When You say something like that, Jesus

I’m all ears
paying close attention
on the edge of my seat
pen poised to take notes.

Everything You tell me is important

whether You say it is or not.

But when You highlight something You’re about to tell me

my heart beats faster
my eyes open wider

because I know I’m about to hear something

that can be a game-changer in my life.

Pray this Lazaroo in the fear of God:

“Their blood will be poured out like dust…”
(Zephaniah 1:17)

Like “dust,” Jesus?

That was unexpected.

I would have thought You’d say:

“Their blood will be poured out like water” –
or oil, or mud.

But “dust?”

Wow.

Are You referring to how much they will bleed

or to the way You will dry them out from the inside?

Either way, that’s what happens to Your enemies

which is one of the countless reasons I’ve chosen
to be Your friend.

Pray this Lazaroo in unshakable trust:

“Will not all of them taunt him…”
(Habakkuk 2:6)

Sometimes it can feel as though those taunts are aimed at me, Jesus

but not this time.

This prophecy is aimed at one of Your enemies.

This promise vindicates us
comforts us in our darkest hour.

The wicked will not keep pounding their chests

at our expense.

Knowing that quiets my spirit, gives me hope
enables me to stay on this straight, challenging path

You have stretched out before me.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit

“Brace yourselves…”
(Nahum 2:1)

When someone tells me to brace myself

I get a little tense, Jesus.

But when You tell me to brace myself?

LORD God Almighty!
I lock up, can’t function.

Except…

when You warn me to brace myself
You’re fighting for me, not against me!

giving me a heads up
so I can survive.

No amount of bracing myself can save me if You’re delivering the blow

but no weapon forged against me can prevail
if You’re my Defender.

Open your heart in total trust, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He takes it from me!”
(Micah 2:4)

There may be things more terrifying, Jesus –

but right now I can’t think of any.

When You take something precious from me –

something I thought You’d given me for keeps

I’m utterly helpless.

How can I quarrel – and win – with You?

But when I get over the shock of my loss, I rest in this:

When You take it from me

You will either give it back
or give me something better.

Pray this Lazaroo with new clarity:

“When my life was ebbing away, I remembered you, LORD…”
(Jonah 2:7)

That’s a good time to remember You, Jesus.

How often have I called out to You in desperation
when I was going under for the third time?

But it’s not the best time to remember You, is it?

The preferred time to get close to You
to put You first in all I do

is before I make the horrendous decisions

that threaten to destroy my life.

Pray this Lazaroo in dawning awareness:

“…the house of Esau will be stubble…”
(Obadiah 1:18)

Hard words, Jesus

though no less true.

I prefer soft words, myself

saying them and hearing them.

Sadly, soft words are often ignored.

I use them with others
others use them with me

to which we nod, smile, wave an acknowledgment…

and keep right on doing what we’re doing.

Hard words pack a punch because they carry a threat.

Y’know…I think I’d rather learn how to respond
to soft words.

Pray this Lazaroo with full attention:

“Hear this word the LORD has spoken against you, O people of Israel…”
(Amos 3:1)

That’s not a word I’d want to hear, Jesus

especially if I was an Israelite.

What a reminder that You discipline Your kids!

I’m Your kid, too.

You love me enough to discipline me –

not because You want to cause me pain

but because You will do whatever You have to do

to spare me from the consequences

of heading down the wrong path.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“…they leap over the mountaintops…”
(Joel 2:5)

You’re describing the Day of the LORD, Jesus

when an army of supernatural locusts will sweep over the earth
in terrifying pain, anguish and destruction.

Nowhere will be safe
not even those nestled in valleys surrounded by mountains.

I don’t want to be here then!
I don’t want to be surrounded by the suffering those locusts bring.

Some people say I may
some say I won’t

But either way

I’ll have You.

Sell out totally to God as you pray this Lazaroo:

“The LORD said to me…”
(Hosea 3:1)

I always get a little nervous when somebody talks like that, Jesus.

Oh, not in Scripture!

I love it there.
I trust it.
I know it’s true.

I mean it makes me nervous when people I know – or even strangers – talk like that around me.

Not because I don’t believe it’s possible
but because I don’t believe it’s likely

…unless it comes from someone who through the years

I’ve come to respect.
