Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“As you summon to a feast day, so you summoned against me terrors on every side. In the day of the Lord’s anger no one escaped or survived; those I cared for and reared my enemy has destroyed.”
(Lamentations 2:22)

We make a lethal mistake, don’t we, Jesus?

When we sin and nothing happens
we think nothing will happen.

We fail to realize You’re giving us time to repent.

But if we don’t

on a day seemingly like any other
suddenly the day of Your anger will arrive.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

“The pride of your heart has deceived you…”
(Obadiah 1:3)

Pride will do that, Jesus.

The moment I get to thinking it’s all me

and forget that everything I have is from You

I’ve committed the same fatal mistake as Your angel Lucifer

who lost his place in heaven.

“Pride goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit before a fall.”

May I never forget:

You’re the Giver of every good and perfect gift!

I’m the totally, wholly, utterly

unworthy recipient.

Pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’”
(Luke 2:8-10)

Sometimes when You show up I’m afraid, Jesus

because I mistake what You’re doing for something bad.

But it isn’t.

Pray this Lazaroo with burning emotion:

“The time is coming when I will cut short your strength and the strength of your priestly house, so that no one in it will reach old age, and you will see distress in my dwelling. Although good will be done to Israel, no one in your family line will ever reach old age.”
(1 Samuel 2:31-32)

Eli honored his sinning sons over You, Jesus.

Bad mistake.

You’ve commanded me to care for my family

but never if it dishonors You.

Stay focused, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Have you suffered so much for nothing – if it really was for nothing? Does God give you his Spirit and work miracles among you because you observe the law, or because you believe what you heard?”
(Galatians 3:4)

Paul’s getting a little perturbed at them, Jesus.

They’re still trying to work their way to heaven

instead of trusting what You did on the cross
as payment in full for their sins.

Please don’t let me make the same mistake!

Pray this Lazaroo with total transparency:

“…’I will give ten thousand talents of silver to the king’s administrators for the royal treasury.’ So the king took his signet ring from his finger and gave it to Haman…the enemy of the Jews. ‘Keep the money,’ the king said to Haman, ‘and do with the people as you please.’”
(Esther 3:9-11)

When Haman conspired against Your people, Jesus

he made a fatal mistake.

When the king bought in without doing his homework

he made one, too

Guide me, Holy Spirit!

I don’t want to make any fatal mistakes!

Pray this Lazaroo with unshakable belief:

“On the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they were going to name him after his father Zechariah, but his mother spoke up and said, ‘No! He is to be called John.’”
(Luke 1:59-60)

Her husband’s lack of belief had already cost them both, Jesus.

Elizabeth wasn’t about to make the same mistake.

You had told them their son’s name was to be John.

So John is what she named him.

May I obey You

with that same conviction!

Pray this Lazaroo in Spirit-given awareness:

“…they saw the foundation of this temple being laid…”
(Ezra 3:12)

How many times have I tried to start something, build something, do something, Jesus…

without properly considering the absolute importance
of laying a deep, strong, solid foundation?

Buildings without good foundations can’t withstand powerful storms.

Neither can projects, missions, businesses, families

lives.

While I’m in such a hurry to get started, I’m tempted to ignore the storms that will come.

But that’s a lethal mistake.
Because they will.

On this Christmas day, pray this Lazaroo with bottomless trust:

“…they…stayed there three days…”
(Joshua 2:22)

So how long do You want me to stay where I am, Jesus?

A day? Three? A year?
For the rest of my life?

It’s good to know I’m where You want me

but to presume I will never move
is a mistake.

You want me to enjoy where You’ve placed me

but not to become complacent, thinking
“Now I know how this is going to play out.”

No.
Huh-uh.
I don’t know.
