Pray this Lazaroo with focused resolve:

“…the women are to be…temperate and trustworthy in everything.”
(1 Timothy 3:11)

Of course, Jesus.

So are the men.

You don’t want me to be a fit-thrower, a drunkard

wild or unbalanced.

It pleases You when I exercise self-control.

You want me to be the kind of person who can be trusted

with other people’s money and secrets
to show up when I say I will

to refuse temptation
even when I don’t think I’ll get caught.

Pray this Lazaroo all the way to the marrow of your bones:

“Mordecai told him…the exact amount of money Haman had promised to pay into the royal treasury for the destruction of the Jews. He also gave him a copy of the text of the edict for their annihilation, which had been published in Susa, to show to Esther…and… instruct her to go into the king’s presence to beg for mercy.”
(Esther 4:7-8)

When Satan attacks, Jesus

give me the wisdom and clarity of mind

to know exactly what to do

to defeat him and win the victory!

Pray this Lazaroo with no-holds-barred surrender:

“So he said to me, ‘This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel:”‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,”’ says the Lord Almighty’.”
(Zechariah 4:6)

Those are Your precious words to me, Jesus!

It’s not how strong I am.
It’s not how smart I am.
It’s not how much money I have.
It’s not how well-connected I am.
It’s not the sophistication of my tools.
It’s not how many degrees I’ve earned..

It’s You!

Always and forever:

It’s You!

Pray this Lazaroo with unrestrained allegiance:

“Now a man who was lame from birth…asked them for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, ‘Look at us!’ So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.”
(Acts 3:2-5)

He was about to get something all right, Jesus…

but it wasn’t from Peter and John.

It was from You!

He wanted money, but what he needed was to be healed.

That’s what I desire, Father!

Not what I think I want
but what You know I need.

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“Now the overseer is to be above reproach, faithful to his wife, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money.”
(1 Timothy 3:2-3)

Those are a lot of requirements, Jesus.

No wonder some people see them
and back away from pursuing this holy office.

But these are the bare minimums!

Isn’t this the holy life to which You’ve called
absolutely every one of us?

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your heart:

Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets tell fortunes for money. Yet they look for the Lord’s support and say, ‘Is not the Lord among us? No disaster will come upon us.’”
(Micah 3:11)

There’s a difference, isn’t there, Jesus –

between leaders who have a heart
to do Your work

and those who refuse to do Your work
unless they’re paid.

Give us leaders whose sole motivation

is to please You!

Pray this Lazaroo with courageous discernment:

“…he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so…”
(3 John 1:10)

What kind of person behaves like this in Your Church, Jesus?

He’s a plant, isn’t he?
Slipped in by Satan.

Perhaps he’s someone with money or social prominence.

Maybe he holds an office in the church
or simply has been there a long time.

He may be a sinning believer.
He may only pretend to be a believer.

But either way, he’s got to stop

or go.

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“Judah has desecrated the sanctuary the LORD Loves by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.”
(Malachi 2:11)

What a heartbreak, Jesus!

Jewish men were divorcing their Jewish wives
and marrying idol-worshiping foreign women

in order to gain economic advantage in their trade with other countries.

How could they do such a thing?
These men worshiped an idol of their own, didn’t they?

Money.

May I never – ever! – compromise my walk with You

in order to line my pockets.

Pray this Lazaroo in solemn assessment:

“Their land is full of silver and gold…”
(Isaiah 2:7)

But since when has that been enough, Jesus?

We work long hours for money and the things it will buy

then come to the end of the day

exhausted, empty, dissatisfied.

So we work even harder, longer

thinking the solution will be found in more

but it isn’t.

Sadly, only then do we stop, look around

and turn to You

the only one who can satisfy
my longing soul.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“If he…owes you anything…”
(Philemon 1:18)

Of course he owes him something, Jesus.

We all do.

Every person who lives with, works with, or interacts with another

owes them a big debt.

Sometimes it’s money.

But far more often it’s thanks

either for something they’ve done for me
or something they’ve done to me.

I owe my friends for their favors.
I owe my enemies for the lessons they’ve taught

some of which I will never, ever, ever forget.
