Pray this Lazaroo with eyes riveted on Jesus:

“In the middle of the night something startled the man; he turned—and there was a woman lying at his feet!”
(Ruth 3:8)

Ruth had broken protocol, Jesus.

It was not their custom to allow women in the threshing floor.

But Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi told her to do it

and as far as Ruth was concerned, that trumped their customs.

You honored it!
Naomi was right.

Give me the wisdom to know when to do what’s expected

and when You’ve called me
to take the road less traveled.

Pray this Lazaroo in ardent love:

“’When he lies down, note the place where he is lying. Then go and uncover his feet and lie down. He will tell you what to do.’ ‘I will do whatever you say,’ Ruth answered. So she went down to the threshing floor and did everything her mother-in-law told her to do.’”
(Ruth 3:4-6)

Naomi – the ultimate matchmaker, Jesus.

Worked out pretty well, too –
since Ruth became
Your many times removed great-grandmother.

Put me with the right people, Jesus!

so I and they

can become everything You’ve created us to be.

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted dedication:

“One day Ruth’s mother-in-law Naomi said to her, ‘My daughter, I must find a home for you, where you will be well provided for.’”
(Ruth 3:1)

Naomi was a heartbroken widow, Jesus.

No one would have blamed her
for wanting Ruth to stay and take care of her.

But Naomi entrusted herself to You

and put Ruth’s needs ahead of her own.

O God!

Rise up within me so strongly
that I have that same caring heart toward others!

Pray this Lazaroo with earnest desire:

“…Ruth stayed close to the women of Boaz to glean until the barley and wheat harvests were finished. And she lived with her mother-in-law.”
(Ruth 2:23)

This wasn’t the life Ruth thought You were going to give her, Jesus

but trusting You, she embraced it anyway –

and oh, the reward that was finally hers!

Help me follow her example

believing with everything in me that in Your way and time

every promise You’ve made to me
will come true.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your soul:

“Her mother-in-law asked her, ‘Where did you glean today? Where did you work? Blessed be the man who took notice of you! Then Ruth told her mother-in-law about the one at whose place she had been working. ‘The name of the man I worked with today is Boaz,’ she said. ‘The Lord bless him!’ Naomi said to her daughter-in-law.”
(Ruth 2:19-20)

Totally orchestrated by You, Jesus –

ancestors of Mary and Joseph…

and You!

Gotta love Grandpa Boaz and Grandma Ruth!

Pray this Lazaroo in wholehearted dedication:

“So Ruth gleaned in the field until evening. Then she threshed the barley she had gathered, and it amounted to about an ephah. She carried it back to town, and her mother-in-law saw how much she had gathered. Ruth also brought out and gave her what she had left over after she had eaten enough.”
(Ruth 2:17-18)

Such a work ethic, Jesus!

Such a heart to serve, to share, to honor her mother-in-law!

No wonder You chose her as your ancestral grandmother

many generations before Your virgin birth!

Pray this Lazaroo from the grateful depths of your soul:

“May the LORD repay you for what you have done.”
(Ruth 2:12)

That statement is a double-edged sword, isn’t it, Jesus?

Boaz meant it as a blessing – and it was!
You did, in fact, repay Ruth’s beautiful spirit toward her mother-in-law.

But when I’ve sinned, that’s the last thing I want to hear!

I don’t want to be repaid for the wrong I’ve done.

I want forgiveness!

Let me rephrase that:

I need forgiveness!

And that’s what You purchased for me on the cross.

Pray this Lazaroo with respect and honor:

“…you left your father and mother and your homeland and came to live with a people you did not know before.”
(Ruth 2:11)

That’s the kind of thing people do in honor of You, Jesus!

Ruth did all of that to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi

out of respect for the woman she loved
and in honor of the God Naomi worshiped:

You.

You’re worth every big time price I pay

every courageous action I take in obedience to You.

Pray this Lazaroo in total allegiance:

“…what you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband…”
(Ruth 2:11)

Boaz nailed it, Jesus.

It wasn’t what Ruth did for her mother-in-law while her husband lived.
That could have been out of love for her husband.

It was what she did for her mother-in-law after her husband died.
That was what demonstrated her love for her mother-in law.

Show me how to love others with Your love – for Your sake.

No other incentive needed.
