Pray this Lazaroo in desperation:

“Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, ‘Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth and walk in mourning in front of Abner.’ King David himself walked behind the bier. They buried Abner in Hebron, and the king wept aloud at Abner’s tomb. All the people wept also.”
(2 Samuel 3:31-32)

In the wake of tragedy, Jesus

You enabled David to act decisively and with wisdom.
As a result, the people followed his example.

Please LORD –

when tragedy strikes –

help me do the same.

Pray this Lazaroo in stunned gratitude:

“In every province to which the edict and order of the king came, there was great mourning among the Jews, with fasting, weeping and wailing. Many lay in sackcloth and ashes.”
(Esther 4:3)

Horrible news does that to us, Jesus!

For the Jews, this news was about as bad as it gets.

The king had issued a decree
that made it legal to destroy their entire nation.

But as You do again and again for Your hurting people

You were about to turn that bad news upside down!

Pray this Lazaroo in happy anticipation:

“So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.”
(Genesis 3:23-24)

What a heartbreak, Jesus!

We’ve been mourning that loss ever since.

But in heaven –

for those of us who’ve placed our trust in You –

that longing will be fulfilled!

Rejoice! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Besides Asahel, nineteen of David’s men were found missing. But David’s men had killed three hundred and sixty Benjamites who were with Abner. They took Asahel and buried him in his father’s tomb at Bethlehem. Then Joab and his men marched all night and arrived at Hebron by daybreak.”
(2 Samuel 2:30-32)

The battle aftermath, Jesus.

Losses on both sides.
Pain. Deep mourning.

Still, one the clear victor.

As always, the one You chose.

Because of You
that’s me.

Take warning! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“He has swallowed up all her palaces and destroyed her strongholds. He has multiplied mourning and lamentation for Daughter Judah. He has laid waste his dwelling like a garden; he has destroyed his place of meeting. The Lord has made Zion forget her appointed festivals and her Sabbaths; in his fierce anger he has spurned both king and priest.”
(Lamentations 2:5-6)

You’re longsuffering, Jesus.

But may I never persist in my sin

because I’m terrified to incur Your wrath!

Consider carefully, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him. Then he made love to his wife again, and she became pregnant and gave birth to a son. He named him Beriah, because there had been misfortune in his family.”
(1 Chronicles 7:22-23)

Ephraim was lost in grief, Jesus.

Even after You gave him a son in place of those who died
he rhymed his name with “misfortune.”

When I’m dealt a huge blow

please help me trust You
and move on!

Fully open your heart, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Ezer and Elead were killed by the native-born men of Gath, when they went down to seize their livestock. Their father Ephraim mourned for them many days, and his relatives came to comfort him.
(1 Chronicles 7:21-22)

The loss of Ephraim’s livestock didn’t even register, Jesus

in comparison to the loss of his sons.

I’m sure he appreciated his relative’s attempts to comfort him

but the agony of this kind of tragedy
doesn’t disappear overnight.

There is a comfort

only You can give.

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“‘Even now,’ declares the Lord, ‘return to me with all your heart, with fasting and weeping and mourning.’”
(Joel 2:12)

You’re saying it’s not too late, Jesus!

Not as long as I have breath in my lungs
and a heart open to You.

But I’ve got to I understand:

You’re not saying, “It’s never too late.”

Because for those who repeatedly reject You
allowing their hearts to become hard over the years?

The day of no return will come.

Pray this Lazaroo with a broken heart:

“…Rachel weeping for her children…”
(Matthew 2:18)

A lot of us are following Rachel’s lead, Jesus

weeping for our children

some of us because our children have died, like Rachel’s

but far more because they’ve gone astray

rejected their upbringing
turned their backs on You

been sucked in by addictions
deceived by the fleeting pleasures of sin.

May my grief not be limited to biological children and grandchildren

but extend to the children of this generation.

Help me
help them!
