Ask big! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Then I said, ‘Not so, Sovereign Lord! I have never defiled myself. From my youth until now…No impure meat has ever entered my mouth.’ ‘Very well,’ he said, ‘I will let you bake your bread over cow dung instead of human excrement.’”
(Ezekiel 4:14-15)

Did Ezekiel talk You out of it, Jesus…

or was this a test?

Sometimes I don’t get what I want because I didn’t ask.

Even so, You say yes

only when it’s Your will!

Pray this Lazaroo…thoughtfully:

“We all stumble in many ways. Anyone who is never at fault in what they say is perfect, able to keep their whole body in check.”
(James 3:2)

Of the many ways I can sin, Jesus

it’s most likely to happen
when I open my mouth.

That makes me want to keep my mouth shut.

But the problem with that solution is this:

If I only think it,
it’s still a sin.

No one else may know it
but You do

because You read minds.

Never forget! as you pray this Lazaroo:

“But now be so kind as to look at me. Would I lie to your face? Relent, do not be unjust; reconsider, for my integrity is at stake. Is there any wickedness on my lips? Can my mouth not discern malice?”
(Job 6:28-30)

Job can’t believe it, Jesus.

His friends have stopped comforting him
and started accusing him –

insisting all his troubles
are his fault!

Somehow they’ve forgotten there’s an enemy of our souls

who attacks the righteous.

Pray this Lazaroo in deep gratitude:

“What about your brother, Aaron the Levite? I know he can speak well…You shall speak to him and put words in his mouth; I will help both of you speak and will teach you what to do. He will speak to the people for you, and it will be as if he were your mouth and as if you were God to him.”
(Exodus 4:14-16)

When I can’t do what You’ve told me to do, Jesus

You always provide someone –

or something –

to help me.

Pray this Lazaroo in aching compassion:

“…what do your arguments prove? Do you mean to correct what I say, and treat my desperate words as wind? You would even cast lots for the fatherless and barter away your friend.”
(Job 6:25-27)

That must be how the suffering feel, Jesus

when I point out to them the error of their ways.

Job was in the right.
His friends in the wrong.

Is it possible I’m the one who’s in error?

Help me set a guard over my mouth.

Pray this Lazaroo with a heart sensitive to the needs of others:

“Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely. Your temples behind your veil are like the halves of a pomegranate. Your neck is like the tower of David, built with courses of stone; on it hang a thousand shields, all of them shields of warriors.”
(Song of Songs 4:3-4)

I’m not sure those compliments would work today, Jesus

especially not the pomegranate and tower of David.

But it’s good to pay compliments, isn’t it?

Even when they miss
those who receive them
surely appreciate the attempt.

Pray this Lazaroo in patient readiness:

“I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be silent…But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth and you shall say to them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says.’”
(Ezekiel 3:26-27)

Sometimes silence is golden, Jesus.

Sometimes it’s disobedience –

or even worse –

cowardice.

It is my heart’s desire to be silent when You tell me to hush

and to be vocal when You tell me to speak.

In every moment of every day, Holy Spirit…

lead me!

Pray this Lazaroo with laser-focused intensity:

“…she must be quiet.”
(1 Timothy 2:12)

Now come the questions, Jesus:

Should a woman always be quiet?

What about when she can speak up and save someone’s life?
What about when she needs to tell somebody about You?
What about when her baby needs to hear a lullaby?
What about when someone needs encouragement?
What about when sin rears its ugly head?

In these and countless other times You command her
to use the mouth, lips, tongue and vocal cords

You’ve given her!

Pray this Lazaroo with sold-out surrender:

“He asked for a writing tablet, and to everyone’s astonishment he wrote, ‘His name is John.’ Immediately his mouth was opened and his tongue set free, and he began to speak, praising God. All the neighbors were filled with awe, and throughout the hill country of Judea people were talking about all these things.”
(Luke 1:63-65)

When Zechariah didn’t believe You, Jesus

You struck him “dumb – meaning unable to talk.

When anyone else doesn’t believe You

that’s evidence of the other kind of “dumb.”
