Pray this Lazaroo in Holy Spirit-guided introspection:

“Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims! The crack of whips, the clatter of wheels, galloping horses and jolting chariots! Charging cavalry, flashing swords and glittering spears!”
(Nahum 3:1-3)

The city of Ninevah had it all, Jesus…

everything they needed to wreak havoc
on the weaker peoples around them.

How am I equipping myself, Father?

Is it all about being a blessing to others
or only about making things better

for myself?

Pray this Lazaroo with growing understanding:

“But to Jonah this seemed very wrong…”
(Jonah 4:1)

What was this horrible thing Jonah thought You did, Jesus?

He didn’t just accuse You of doing wrong
he accused You of doing very wrong.

The “awful” thing You did

was being merciful.

The people of Ninevah deserved to be destroyed.

But when they repented
because Jonah preached their doom
You relented.

May I never be upset when You treat others better than they deserve!

Your mercy
is the only reason
I’m drawing another breath.

Hold nothing back, as you pray this Lazaroo:

“Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger…”
(Jonah 3:8-9)

The king of Ninevah was right, Jesus!

That’s exactly what You did.

How many times have You done that very thing
down through the years?

When I humble myself, turn from my wicked ways

and cast myself on Your mercy

You look into my heart

see the sincerity there

and relent.

Pray this Lazaroo from the depths of your being:

“The voices of your messengers will no longer be heard.”
(Nahum 2:13)

You sent Jonah to warn Ninevah of their impending doom, Jesus.

But when they repented
You relented!

Not this time.

Not long after You granted them a stay of execution
they went right back to their detestable sins.

They stopped sinning to avoid punishment
not because they hated and rejected what they had done.

Nahum was the last prophet You sent to them.

O God!
May I never cross that line!

Pray this Lazaroo in fervency of spirit:

“Who knows? God may yet relent…”
(Jonah 3:9)

Even after the prophet Jonah delivered Your declaration of doom, Jesus

Ninevah’s king rallied his people with the hope of Your mercy.

For good reason:
Your mercy is legendary!
